DEFINITION

The Safety Representative, under the direction of the Internal Services Manager reinforces workplace safety protocols and regulations to prevent potential hazards and operational disruptions. Their role involves facilitating training programs, ensuring OHSA standards are being met, investigating safety incidents for employees and ensuring they are informed about communications related to their safety and well-being. This position works alongside management to encourage and enforce a safe working environment for all District staff.

JOB SUMMARY

The functional areas of the Safety Representative include Hazard Identification, Hazard Mitigation, and Communication.

1. Safety Protocol Implementation:

  • Enforce and promote adherence to safety policies, protocols, and regulations within the workplace.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections to identify and address potential hazards.

2. Training and Education:

  • Assist in the development and conduct safety training programs for employees, educating them on proper safety procedures and the use of safety equipment.
  • Keep employees informed about updates to safety regulations and best practices.
  • Assists with safety campaigns daily/monthly/yearly.

3. Hazard Identification and Mitigation:

  • Actively identify and assess potential safety hazards in the workplace.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments to implement corrective measures and mitigate identified risks.

4. Incident Reporting and Investigation:

  • Encourage and facilitate the reporting of safety incidents, accidents, and near-misses.
  • Assist in the Investigation of root causes of incidents, analyze trends, and recommend corrective actions.

5. Emergency Response Planning:

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of emergency response plans.
  • Participate in emergency drills to ensure preparedness for various scenarios.

6. Communication:

  • Serve as a liaison between management and employees regarding safety-related matters.
  • Attend regular safety committee meetings and assist with follow-up on safety sensitive issues.
  • Communicates safety information, policies, and procedures effectively to all levels of the organization.

7. Compliance Monitoring:

  • Monitor and assess the workplace for compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Make recommendations for improvements and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

8. Equipment Inspection and Maintenance:

  • Regularly inspect safety equipment and ensure proper maintenance.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to repair or replace faulty equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain all safety equipment and supplies.

9. Safety Culture Promotion:

  • Foster a strong safety culture by promoting awareness, encouraging safe practices, and recognizing positive safety behaviors.
  • Help administer and review the safety incentive program on a daily/monthly/yearly basis.

10. Documentation and Recordkeeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of safety training, incidents, and corrective actions taken.
  • Prepare and submit reports on safety performance as required.

11. Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with other departments and safety committees to address safety concerns and implement improvements.

12. Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging safety trends.
  • Proactively contribute to the continuous improvement of safety processes and procedures.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with supervisors, peers, employees, and contractors.
  • Knowledgeable on federal and state safety standards

  • All other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • US Citizen or ability to legally work in the US.
  • Possess a valid Arizona-issued driver license.
  • Able to communicate clearly, confidently, and professionally with staff and outside personnel.
  • Hold a Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) credential Or be able to obtain it within two years of employment.
  • Successfully completed OSHA 30 in either General Industry or Construction.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Physical Requirements:

  • Perform physical labor for extended periods in Arizona heat.
  • Lift heavy objects such as transformer pads and junction boxes up to 100 lbs.
  • Remain stationary for prolonged periods.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma
  • OSHA 30
  • Minimum of two years’ safety experience in construction, electrical, agriculture, or automotive industry.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work outdoors out of their vehicle 75% of the time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $26.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
