Job description

As a Safety Operations Supervisor (SOS) at Traffic Management Inc., you are responsible for the safety, operational excellence, and well-being of the most important asset at our company – our employees. As an individual, you will lead by example, listen intently, and follow up on issues raised by team members at all levels in the organization.  


As a key member of the branch leadership team, you will both understand the big picture of where we are going as a company while being hands-on in the day-to-day operation to make it happen.


 

  • Collaborates frequently with colleagues across functional departments, such as HR, Sales, Procurement, and maintenance teams, ensuring that business and operational objectives are met.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders at all levels to support corporate, regional, and branch initiatives, and serves as a visible driving force in the areas of responsibility and scope of control.
  • Optimizes business operations by creating, modifying, and enhancing SOPs.
  • Supports engagement programs to attract new employees and enhance existing employee loyalty, satisfaction, and retention.
  • Attracts, hires, leads, and develops a diverse team of Drivers, Helpers, and/or Dispatchers.
  • Provides coaching, feedforward, and challenging assignments to team members, fostering their growth and development.

OPERATIONS ADMINISTRATION

  • Uses commercial and proprietary technology to process requisitions, dispatch people and assets, process corrective action, process, and close receipts, maintain PPE stock levels, and complete learning objectives.
  • Tracks employee incidents and ensures that retraining, coaching, and corrective discipline are issued in a timely manner.

 

FIELD OPERATIONS AND SAFETY

  • Works in the field driving sites, conducting management walks and safety inspections, and training traffic controllers on standards.
  • Champions safety by implementing hazard prevention programs, fostering accountability for safe behaviors, leading safety meetings, conducting crew out safety toolboxes, and promoting a safety-focused culture.
  • Investigates policy and procedure violations and initiates incidents. 
  • Review Jobsite Safety Analysis (JSA) to ensure compliance with identified job site hazards. 
  • Monitors truck load outs. 

FLEET MANAGEMENT

  • Maintains compliance on vehicle and equipment inspections, carries out minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and coordinates corrective maintenance within budget.
  • Reviews DVIR tickets for repair 
  • Analyzes reports to ensure equipment utilization. 

FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

  • Can maintain compliance on warehouse safety, security, and inventory of operational assets and ensures compliance with facility regulations and provides support as needed.
  • Conducts Jobsite Safety Inspections
  • Participates in incident investigations for misuse and abuse, and unreported damage

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Previous knowledge or experience in leading in a safety-focused environment is strongly preferred.
  • OSHA 30 or other safety-specific certifications preferred.
  • Capacity to lead diverse teams of individuals to perform at their best.
  • Ability to problem solve, use good judgment, and make sound decisions efficiently.
  • A high degree of ethics and integrity to do the right thing in the right way in the face of adversity.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes as needed.
  • Ability to safely operate a company vehicle and work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers and colleagues.
  • Have a high degree of ethics and integrity.
  • Proficient in utilizing technology (i.e., Microsoft Office, App-Based Software, Web-Based Software).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Being able to stand for long periods of time.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School or equivalent
• 1 year of work experience
