We are looking for a Safety Officer to join our team.
Job Summary
The Safety officer is responsible for safety compliance and managing the field safety efforts of the company and Drivers to reduce accidents, injuries, and unsafe situations. Reports to the EHS Director.
Job Responsibility

  • Train, manage and develop the safety programs for production floor.
  • Collaborate, develop, and execute plans to promote a safer workplace.
  • Prepare new or update current SOPs as needed and enforce policies to establish a culture of safety.
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to best practices.
  • Conduct training and presentations on safety matters and accident prevention.
  • Responsible for DOT and non-Dot Driver Qualifications - Medical Cards/Physicals, CDL, Annual Driving Records.
  • DOT regulations, Safety Practices and Accident Prevention (all areas required for our industry).
  • Driver Records - Processing employment applications, making hiring decisions for Drivers, DOT required documents, company policies, CSA Scores, MVR, criminal background, PSP, and DAC.
  • Monitor compliance with policies and regulations by auditing internal files and documents.
  • Monitor and assist in enforcement of DOT and FMCSA regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover root causes and determine appropriate preventive measures and corrective actions.
  • Report on near misses
  • Analyze safety data and identify methods or procedures to reduce risk.
  • Coordinate the distribution of truck permit books for current and new assets.
  • Mentor company leaders on safety processes and advise on best practices.
  • Conduct daily audits of drivers to ensure compliance and productivity through a fleet management and tracking software system.
  • Work with other departments to promote safer and more efficient processes.
  • Work to integrate and train new safety technology or procedures.
  • Apply for permits and certifications (oversize, IFTA, Hazmat, NMFTA) for the company.
  • Register titles and tags for company owned and leased equipment (County Fleet and IRP).
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Complete other Safety related tasks as directed.
  • Manage OSHA safety compliance and Workman's Compensation program.

Qualifications:
  • Great communication skills listening, written and verbal.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related work experience
  • 5 years' experience in transportation safety or related field, and/or experience in logistics and manufacturing.
  • Experience and understanding of accepted loss prevention and safety practices.
  • Knowledge of Tenstreet, McLeod, DriverTech, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and typing skills is a plus.
  • Professional certifications (GSP, CSP or CSHO including other recognized certifications) preferred or willing to obtain.
