Job Summary: We are seeking a Safety Engineer with expertise in machine safety and risk assessment to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in applying engineering controls to mitigate hazards and reduce risks within our facility. Your contributions will help ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices.
- Develop fundamental hazard control designs, methods, procedures, and programs.
- Administer and communicate hazard control programs.
- Interpret and apply internal and external standards to support hazard reduction and ensure compliance.

Competencies:
1. Fundamentals Of Health And Safety:
- Comprehensive knowledge of occupational health & safety.
- Detailed understanding of general industry standards and the requirements of frequently referenced standards.
- Knowledge of basic health and safety concepts such as hazard and risk assessment, personal protective equipment, behavior-based safety, machine/equipment safety, confined space entry, etc.
2. Health & Safety Professional Knowledge (Including Regulatory Compliance):
- Comprehensive knowledge of occupational safety and health compliance.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements imposed on the industry by local, state, provincial, national, and international organizations.
- Knowledge of how regulations are implemented in the workplace, rights and responsibilities under various acts/regulations/rules, the appeals process, record keeping (OSHA), and Voluntary Protection Programs (OSHA).
- Understanding of general industry standards and frequently referenced requirements.
3. Occupational Health & Safety Management System:
- Proficiency in managing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) responsibilities through an OHS management system.
- Familiarity with standards that guide the process of achieving improved OHS performance and compliance with legislation.
4. Risk Management:
- Expertise in health & safety management principles and system Safety Engineering techniques.
- Capable of identifying and managing risks, including risk identification and management principles.
- Proficient in conducting hazard analysis within various phases of the system development.
- Knowledge of hazard analysis tools and techniques in an engineering context.
5. Incident Investigation:
- Proficiency in reporting occupational injuries/illnesses, near-hits, and property damage.
- Skilled in performing comprehensive incident investigations, including root cause analysis, 5-why analysis, and development of effective corrective actions.
6. System Safety:
- Expertise in safety management principles and system Safety Engineering techniques.
- Capable of identifying and managing risks, including understanding the role of hazard analysis in different phases of system development.
- Proficient in hazard analysis tools and techniques in a system and engineering context.

In this role, you will lead specific projects to improve manufacturing processes and equipment safety to meet safety requirements, business goals, and product specifications.

- Utilize continuous improvement tools and adhere to standards.
- Lead the development of manufacturing standards and working methods.
Qualifications:
- Holding machinery safety certifications is a plus.
- Background or knowledge in machine/equipment risk assessment is advantageous.
- Understanding of the safety functions of machinery.
- Ability to complete risk assessments.
- Possession of a 2 or 4-year degree in a related field is a plus.
