Job Summary:

This role will serve as a member of the corporate safety team in building and maintaining safety programs and policies, coordinating with Learning on the development of safety related trainings for both store associates and Asset Protection field teams, and sourcing safety equipment in addition to general responsibilities as they pertain to evolving organizational commitment to safety within Lowe's.
The Safety Compliance Program Manager will be responsible for ensuring company and site level compliance with all federal and state related regulations. This will include managing the intake, investigation, resolution, and monetary negotiations for Safety Compliance issues (OSHA inspections, complaint responses, and management of reportable injuries) on behalf of the organization. In doing so this role will be required to influence and align corporate, field, and store level leaders to resolve any safety issues that arise and prevent any future issues company-wide.
The position will also be responsible for tracking impending regulations (federal and state level) and will serve as Lowe's voice in the development of these regulations as they pertain to the retail community; and prepare the organization for any upcoming regulatory changes to maintain compliance pro actively.
Additionally, this role will provide store and district leadership teams direction as it relates to the investigation and resolution of safety related matters, requiring a 24-hour on-call commitment to address the needs related to safety incidents and regulatory issues as they arise.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a positive, self-motivated attitude as it pertains to the safety vision/mission; while continuously and respectfully challenging how we do things, at the same time offering solutions on how we can improve employee and customer safety.

  • Manage the intake, successful negotiation and resolution of all safety related contacts (Inspections, Complaints, Incident Reports and Annual Reporting requirements) reaching approximately 450 contacts per year.

  • Serve as the company subject matter expert in safety. Collaborating, advising, and giving direction to key stakeholders in the corporate office such as Legal, Risk Management, Tool Rental, Learning, Human Resources, and Store Operations in order to reduce safety incidents and ensure alignment of programs and processes to brand and regulatory requirements.

  • Project Manager for safety related programs, equipment, and technology deployments as assigned to deliver on time, on budget, and with positive return on investment.

  • Coordinate with Learning & Development to develop and deliver training programs for Asset Protection and Safety programs, processes and initiatives in order to reduce safety incidents and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Manage the intake, investigation, resolution, and successful negotiation of all safety related contacts (Inspections, Complaints, Incident Reports) reaching approximately 450 contacts per year.

  • Conduct monetary settlement negotiations related to OSHA penalties and fines.

  • Develop and implement new safety policies and procedures as needed to reduce safety incidents as well as adapt Lowe’s Safety Program for new regulatory requirements and organizational changes.

  • Safety Manager coverage for intake of mandatory reportable events. This will require a 24-hour on-call commitment to ensure regulatory deadlines ranging from 8 to 24 hours are met.

  • Track impending regulations at federal and state level, serving as Lowe's voice in the development of these regulations as they pertain to the retail community through coordination with professional and industry specific organizations such as American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA).

  • Complete Annual Reporting requirements for OSHA, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Corporate Sustainability Report, Dow Jones Sustainability Index and others as required.

  • Manage Asset Protection field learning of safety related topics and programs through coordination with appropriate corporate Asset Protection team and Safety Managers.

  • Continue to enhance root cause analysis training and the intake and grading of field incident reports.

  • As part of the corporate safety team, continue to participate in evolving our commitment to safety by identifying risks and solutions within the organization.

  • Data mastery – Continue to evolve Lowe’s safety data (intake, dashboarding, identification of leading indicators, statistical analysis, etc.) so that we are positioned to provide the field the information necessary to proactively manage risk and allocate resources accordingly.

  • Manage our relationship with our Risk Management group and all vendors under that relationship (TPA, Electronic OSHA reports, risk consulting, etc.)

  • Manage relationship and engagements with our Industrial Hygiene vendor for proactive IH engagements and for response related IH engagements.

  • Serve as business partner to assigned corporate departments, acting as their subject matter expert and guiding decisions for all safety related matters.

  • Manage the general safety mailbox and respond to the field as required.

  • Monitor internal posting sites and social media for employee safety concerns.

  • Maintain list of all safety programs/policies, versioning/warehousing system and the review windows/owners of all documents.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Safety Science, Industrial Health, Risk Management, Engineering and 3 Years Safety and regulatory experience, actively building safety programs and actively managing/negotiating with regulatory agencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree Safety Science, Industrial Health, Risk Management, Engineering

  • 5 Years Safety and regulatory experience, actively building safety programs and actively managing/negotiating with regulatory agencies.

  • Experience with a Mass Retailer or other multi-location employer.

  • Warehouse type store and/or distribution center experience
