Rural Alaska Program Coordinator


Program Overview:

Camp Fire Alaska’s Rural Program provides supplies and fun activities that emphasize the importance of healthy life choices, reducing high risk behaviors and encouraging community engagement to Rural Alaska Communities.


Work Dates: January - August 

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 hours/day between the hours of 7am - 6pm.

Work Location: Camp Fire Office, possible travel to Rural communities during Summer Program in June & July 

Reports to: Rural Program Director

FLSA: Full Time, Non- Exempt, Seasonal

Pay: $21.00/hour


Position Summary: 

This positions provides oversight and direct supervision to the coordination of Camp Fire Alaska’s Rural Program.  Collaborate with a team of direct and indirect reports to assist in the delivery of day-camp-like experiences in remote communities throughout Alaska. Engage in work that supports Camp Fire’s Promise to provide youth with the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice and discover who they are.  This position not only has on-call responsibilities, but must be prepared to fly to rural communities on short notice in support of program and partnerships.


Position Overview of Day-to-Day Work: 

During Preseason from January through April you will spend their day communicating with Tribal/Traditional Council contacts and school districts and principals to develop and manage contracts for program within the Rural communities hosting program. This position is also responsible for gathering community data, coordinating and tracking program logistics and manage community information packets given to the Rural Program Travel Staff. You will also support leadership in the orientation and training of Travel Staff. 

During the season from May - August you will be responsible for supporting program staff remotely through weekly check in calls and on call responsibilities. You will monitor and collect paperwork from Travel Staff, ensuring timely and accurate completion. In addition to this remote support, you may also be required to travel to communities to support staff in person as needed. 


Qualifications:

  • Minimum: Bachelor's level degree in early education, youth development, outdoor education, recreation, anthropology, social work, or similar field, relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education. 
  • Minimum two years of supervision experience. 
  • Minimum two years previous experience in direct program delivery (in licensed or accredited programs/camps, classroom teaching, outdoor education, etc.) required, with experience in school age youth preferred
  • Ability to drive to Rural warehouse on demand as required, with valid driver's license and access to personal car preferred.
  • Current Adult/Child/Infant CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification from nationally recognized provider or ability to obtain certification within three months of hire.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification from a nationally recognized provider or ability to obtain preferred
  • Previous experience working with Alaska Native populations preferred
