Doorstep Compost Collection Manager

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.66 - $26 per hour DOE

  • 32 - 36 hours per week
  • Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, with occasionally shorter days.

About the position

The Manager reports directly to the Compost Programs Director. Manages the Route Drivers and occasionally does route driving. Route Drivers drive predetermined routes to collect full compost buckets in a safe and organized manner. A driver's work involves navigating routes, collecting buckets, and upon returning to the yard emptying and washing buckets.

Drivers use an automatic-transmission company van and iPad to navigate routes.

Drivers work one or more days on Tuesdays through Fridays.

Essential Managerial Duties and Tasks:

  • Performs customer service, e.g., phone and email interaction with clients.
  • Manages client database, route database and client payment database.
  • Participates in marketing and development
  • On a weekly basis, establishes routes and schedules drivers.
  • Meets weekly with the Program Director and participates in management meetings.
  • Manages, purchases, maintains all program supplies and infrastructure.
  • Ensures vehicles are maintained and scheduled for maintenance and operational readiness.
  • Coordinates assignment of finished compost to clients on a semi-annual basis.
  • Oversees workspace for cleanliness and organization.
  • Manages up to 4 part time route drivers and participates in route driving as necessary:
  • Ensures the delivery and collection of food waste buckets in a timely manner to the customers on each route.
  • Collects reports regarding route irregularities to improve service and mapping.
  • Communicates with customers' bucket protocols.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies and status of vehicles, and notify management to ensure timely procurement and service.
  • Ensures drivers appropriately wash, sanitize, and store clean buckets.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to use Google Suite.
  • Ability to work with databases and software, iPads.
  • Excellent customer service and communication.
  • Ability to supervise employees needs, concerns, scheduling conflicts, provide feedback, conduct performance reviews, support employees, hire, retain and motivate.
  • Ability to problem solve, work independently, and with a team.
  • Flexible to be on call for drivers and problem solve as required.
  • Ability to use an iMac for customer check-ins and route configuration.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and team members.
  • Flexible and organized.
  • Working knowledge of the compost process is preferred.

Physical Requirements/Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, feeling, and hearing.
  • Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 35 pounds continuously and frequently.
  • Ability to work outside occasionally.
  • Ability to work around animals, farm equipment and industrial compost production.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • Experience supervising and managing employees is required.
  • 2 years of customer service experience required.
  • Route driving experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity/appreciation for environment and sustainability required.
  • Living in Santa Fe is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrates punctuality, good communication skills, a positive attitude, and commitment to the environment.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license and safe driving history.
  • Written and numerical literacy is required
  • Experience in towing vehicles
  • Experience in driving in snow

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

  • Road Warrior or similar route mapping software: 1 year (Preferred)

Reunity's Doorstep Residential Compost Collection program is the easiest way for Santa Fe residents to reduce their household food waste and subsequent greenhouse gas emissions, and participate in our closed loop community farm where the food waste gets turned into garden-ready compost. We are the only residential compost collection service in Santa Fe.
