Job description

Viceroy Chicago, located at the site of the 1920's-era Cedar Hotel, among historic mansions and just steps to the Magnificent Mile and Lake Michigan, Viceroy Chicago offers a locally-inspired luxury experience with 180 guestrooms, including 18 suites.   Explore modern, Midwest flavors at the hotel’s restaurant or head up to the rooftop bar, pool and lounge, perched 18 stories high for a sweeping panorama of Great Lake views and Chicago’s iconic, soaring skyline.

 

General Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas
  • Use cleaning chemicals according to OSHA regulations and hotel requirements.
  • Adhere to all Health Department, sanitation and safety regulations.
  • Set up and organize work station with designated supplies and equipment; replenish as needed throughout the shift.
  • Monitor usage of chemicals and water to maximize consumption.
  • Separate soiled bed linen/terry/food and beverage table linens; bundle accordingly.
  • Sort all stained/damaged items and determine status for rewash or discard; maintain continuous inventory of discard items.
  • Remove all debris on floors after each sorting.
  • Operate all laundry machines and add designated chemicals in accordance with specified amounts, times and temperatures for the particular articles to be washed.
  • Remove washed articles from the washing machine when the cycle is complete. Inspect cleanliness and place in clean linen carts.
  • Transport cart of washed linen to dryers and place in dryers according to load size. Set dryers to designated times and temperatures for the particular articles to be dried.
  • Remove articles from dryer when cycle is complete and place in clean linen cart. Transport cart to proper work area for finishing.
  • Operate the ironing machine. Check the cleanliness and condition of articles while processing through the machine; separate damaged/stained articles.
  • Fold cleaned articles and stack into designated amounts by type and size. Place stacks in specified areas for distribution.
  • Issue clean table linens and service towels/rags to Food and Beverage personnel.
  • Report faulty equipment, damaged garments/linens, shortages, maintenance needs, safety hazards and problems to supervisor.
  • Remove lint and debris from dryer filters and change filters.
  • Transport trash containers to dumpster; empty and clean accordingly.
  • Breakdown and clean work areas/equipment.
  • Use designated chemicals, supplies and equipment to clean laundry room floor.
  • Restock work areas for next shift as assigned.
  • Complete inventory of stock as assigned.
  • Work with chemical and machine repair personnel to repair machines, improve quality or standards, increase productivity or capacity of machines.
  • Ensure equipment receives periodic preventative maintenance.

 

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • The ability to listen to, assess, and appropriately respond to information conveyed through speech
  • The ability to convey technical information through writing to a nontechnical audience so the recipients easily understand the information and can quickly and correctly apply it.
  • The ability to exercise the personal discipline and extra diligence to assure that projects are completed on timely basis.
  • The ability to subordinate one’s personal agenda in favor of working collaboratively with the team to achieve departmental goals
  • The ability to motivate and inspire others to work cooperatively to achieve a designated goal.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent Hotel data.
  • Flexible schedule - Willing and able to work shift duties that may include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill laundry tasks
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40lbs. on a regular and continuing basis
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length
  • Must be able to work under variable temperature conditions (or extreme heat or cold), under variable noise levels and around chemicals

 

Qualification Standard:

Education: High school graduate or equivalent education preferred

Experience: 1 to 2 years’ previous experience in a similar position in a luxury hotel preferred

Grooming: All colleagues must maintain a neat, and well-groomed appearance (specific standards will be provided)
