Roofing Test Labs Leader

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Roofing Test Labs Leader delivers results across the business through leadership of Components and Shingle Test Labs. This role leads a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians focused on (1) product testing in support of R&D product, process, and technology development as well as needed current product support, (2) delivering a step change in management of test data and operational data, (3) properly equipping laboratory spaces to support the testing needs of the current and future state of Roofing R&D. The Roofing Test Labs Leader will collaborate across the Roofing R&D organization to understand test priority, and then align internal and external lab resources.

Reports to: Sr. R&D Leader, Prototyping and Performance
Span of Control: Components and Shingle Test Labs located at the Granville Science & Technology Center.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Living Safely

• Actively participates in monthly safety meetings.
• Ensures rigorous compliance to safety procedures and OC corporate policies.
• Focuses on sustaining a safe work environment for self, team, and coworkers.

People Leadership

• Provides leadership to team through coaching, mentoring, and support of testing initiatives, automation/efficiency, and team capabilities.
• Builds and maintains a high performing team and works to develop and engage team members according to growth plans.
• Completes individual team performance reviews and overall talent reviews, ensuring the team has the talent and capabilities to be successful.
• Challenges team to achieve maximum potential, investing in the development of direct reports.
• Participates in identifying and recruiting talent to ensure a strong pipeline of talent within Roofing R&D Testing.

Develop Testing Standards, Prioritization, and Expertise

• Partner with testing personnel and product teams to ensure proper training and documentation is maintained for all applicable methods.
• Creates testing decision guidelines that support prioritization of testing aligned to R&D development portfolio, product support needs, and external services requests.
• Establishes the team as subject matter experts on test methods, material specifications, and testing equipment.

Maintain Lab Excellence

• Manage overall laboratory operations to ensure accurate and timely data for product quality.
• Establish and monitor a preventative maintenance schedule and equipment calibration in support of accreditation and maintenance of laboratory capabilities.
• Identify opportunities to drive innovation in the laboratory space through changing technologies and new developments in the Roofing and Building Materials industry.
• Manage and plan expense and lab capital budgets, along with monthly forecasting in support of lab maintenance and new capabilities.

Advance Laboratory Automation & Efficiency

• Lead the implementation of data entry and reporting in LIMS in both Components and Shingle Test Labs.
• Utilize metrics to report output of laboratory testing and identify opportunity to improve processes, procedures, and controls to enhance quality and efficiency.
• Lead and coach direct reports to identify automation opportunities across Components and Shingle Test Labs, create proposals for expense/capital needs, generate stakeholder buy-in, and implement changes to transform efficiency of labs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3+ years of experience working in a R&D laboratory environment.
• B.S. in Science, Engineering, or similar field
• Ability to travel 10%

EXPERIENCE:

• Demonstration of safe work practices
• Strong working knowledge of testing methodology and Roofing products
• People leadership skills
