Position Summary:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: programming robotic weld systems, off-line programming of robotic weld systems, welding process improvements, documentation of processes and technical support to production, standards and methods, tooling, safety, quality control, maintenance, purchasing, and engineering departments.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Work Area Improvement

  • Present information needed by Management to effectively plan for work area layout changes
  • Improve process flow and utilization of equipment for better efficiency and productivity
  • Evaluate work areas to minimize risks and improve safety
  • Evaluate work areas to determine tooling requirements that will offer cost, safety and quality solutions

 

Departmental Support

 

  • Production
    • Program all new and current robotic weld parts and maintain to current Engineering revision
    • Develop and maintain all Standard Work Instructions and set up documentation required for Robotic Welding cells and any other work areas
    • Provide information needed by Management to effectively plan manpower requirements
    • Provide solutions to improve process flow and efficiency
    • Train new/current employees on procedures/processes
    • Train robot operators to safely and effectively operate robotic weld system
    • Test consumables and tools to offer cost effective solutions for production

 

 

  • Standards and Methods
    • Develop and improve welding rate sheets and provide feedback of processes
    • Provide information on equipment and capacities in work areas to determine proper work center routings
    • Conduct video and time study analysis to determine standard time and process improvements

 

  • Tooling
    • Provide information to Tool Design Engineers for tooling requirements needed for robotic weld cells and manual weld operations

 

  • Safety
    • Identify and provide solutions for safety issues in work areas to prevent personal injury and property damage

 

  • Quality Control
    • Identify and resolve quality problems
    • Instill proper procedures that promote consistency in product
    • Develop preventative measures in processes with appropriate tooling and documentation to reduce rework and quality issues

 

  • Maintenance
    • Identify and communicate maintenance issues with robot weld systems
    • Calibrate robot systems to maintain program accuracy

 

  • Engineering
    • Recommend design improvements to reduce cost and rework
    • Provide information and feedback on product development

 

  • Purchasing
    • Provide feedback on product changes to ensure vendor reliability and quality
    • Provide information to make cost effective solutions that compliment manufacturing performance and quality

 

Perform other related duties of similar nature and scope as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Excellent mechanical and robotic aptitude is required
  • Knowledge of ANSI/AWS D1.1 Structural Weld Codes
  • 5 plus years of welding experience
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills
  • Computer skills required (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, J.D. Edwards)
  • Pro Engineer knowledge
  • Off-line programming using 3D Max and IGM software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with little or no supervision
  • A sense of urgency with the ability to meet timelines
  • Able to work extended hours to complete projects
  • Knowledge of GMS and safety systems to ensure compliance.

Education and Experience:

H.S. Diploma

Associate Degree a plus

5 years robotic programming experience (IGM robot systems)

5 years manufacturing/industrial experience

5 years welding experience

 

Working Conditions:

Work performed primarily in heavy manufacturing environment.  Office located within the production area of the facility requiring frequent walking in and around a non-climate controlled metal manufacturing plant.  Frequent exposure to noise, dirt, dust and fumes (rarely to the point of being objectionable).  Extended periods of standing, walking and sitting may be required to meet production scheduling activities. Occasional lifting, pushing or pulling 20 pounds, stooping, reaching, bending, and climbing in and around fabricated metal parts and manufacturing machinery and equipment. Frequent use of overhead cranes to manipulate parts and scissor lift to reach areas elevated work areas.
