Roadway Design Engineer

InNovo is looking for a creative, energetic, detail-oriented team play to join our team in Orlando, Florida as a Traffic Design Engineer, supporting the Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) General Engineering Consultant (GEC) Program, working as an “extension of staff” in the client’s office in Ocoee, FL (metro Orlando area). This position will provide career growth opportunities through engagement with FTE toll road, and express / managed lanes toll road infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a broad highway engineering background, with experience in limited access roadway and/or tolling facility projects. This position offers a work schedule of 4 days/week in-office, and one day telework!

Responsibilities include:

· Responsible for the review of project submittals including Design-Build (DB) and traditional Design-Bil-Build projects. Confirm compliance with applicable design criteria and standards.

· Attends Progress and Design meetings on projects as required. Provide guidance to consultants regarding Roadway Design criteria, policy, and procedures. Be available to respond to questions from Project Managers, consultants, and Client staff regarding technical issues.

· Prepares Scope of Services and staff hour estimates for new contracts and Supplemental Agreements. Coordinate with Project Manager on units and staff hour meetings and with other technical disciplines to provide a multidiscipline approach to negotiations.

· Supports the Turnpike Roadway Design Engineer and leads in the development and update of design-related policies and procedures. Help to identify needed programmatic initiatives that can result in program or project efficiencies and safety improvements.

· Completion of minor in-house design tasks ranging from the preparation of concept plans to signed and sealed contract documents.

· Special assignments may arise that require research on special topics and may result in publishing a report or preparing a presentation for other districts or Central Office.

· Individual may be required to represent the Client at meetings, making decisions and recommendations on behalf of the Client concerning Roadway Design issues and disseminating the result of the meetings to the appropriate parties.

· Serves as an extension of client staff, working daily with the agency’s offices. Individual has the potential to be working full-time in the client’s office and must be able to communicate well with others. The position will require the ability to lead and coordinate meetings as well as work well in a team environment with other consultants in the Client’s office.

· Records review comments in Electronic Review Comments (ERC) system and confirms compliance to comments with responses and subsequent submittals.

What will you contribute?

· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related Transportation Technical Field.

· This position requires minimum of seven (7) years relevant engineering experience in transportation engineering since B.S. and three (3) years of FDOT design experience.

· Experience with toll facility/limited access projects is a plus.

· Understanding of the FDOT project design processes to support the Department with development and implementation of pay items, basis of estimates, modified special provisions, and standard plans.

· Must be familiar with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Policy and Procedures, including the Florida Design Manual (FDM) and FDOT Standard Plans.

· General Engineering Consultant (GEC) experience is a plus.

· Strong, effective interpersonal oral, listening and technical writing, communication skills in English; good public speaking ability to large groups of people.

· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skill.

· Strong organizational and time management skills.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office personal computer applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; working knowledge of SharePoint or other project management / production support systems, MicroStation or AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Adobe Acrobat Professional.

· Professional Engineer Registration in the State of Florida is required.
