Position Summary:
Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational needs of staff in a timely and accurate manner. Assess and maintains unit-specific competency through the organization and coordination of orientation, competency review and new education with assistance of team members as appropriate. To provide quality emergency nursing care in an environment that strives to meet patient needs on a holistic level. This is done by incorporating emotional support and education with superior medical and nursing care with the aim of achieving patient well-being.

Position Requirements:
Formal Education / Training:
1.   Licensed by the State of Tennessee.
2.   Earned a nursing diploma or degree from a college or university.  
3.   BLS within 90 days of hire.
4.   Previous Emergency Nursing experience preferred.
5.   ACLS within six months of hire.
6.   PALS within six months of hire
7.   Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) initial certification within 6 months of employment; instructor certification                
within one year of hire.

Workplace Experience:
Emergency Patient Care Delivery

Equipment and Skills Training:
Standard patient care equipment for services provided.  The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently and to be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of setting.  Equipment:  Network Computer System; Omnicell Medication System; Telemetry; Pneumatic Tube System; AT&T Language Line.

Physical Environment:
Emergency Department with patient population ranging from less than one year of age> ninety-nine years of age.

Physical Effort:
1.   Able to communicate in English verbally and legibly.
2.   Able to stand/work for up to twelve hours a day.
3.   Able to lift with assistance up to 250 lbs.

Key Results:
Facilitates staff development, coordinating and assisting with orientation and training of new personnel.
Coordinates job specific yearly competencies for staff based on departmental and patient care needs.
Performs/coordinates in-services based on needs assessments of staff/physicians/federal and state guideline or standards.
Functions as liaison to support clinical care, promote patient safety and ensure quality patient care through clinical rounding, responding to assistance needed for relief of staff and assisting physicians as requested.
Provides clinical patients care at a level that meets current clinical nursing standards.  
Handles/ transports/ stores/ prepares/ administers medications/ solutions safely and in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Documents accurately and timely.
Maintains position specific qualifications
Functions independently with treatments, procedures and equipment appropriate to areas evidence by adherence to policy, procedure and competency based assessment and no pattern or trend of problem.
Maintains healing and therapeutic environment for the patient and family.
Participates in unit and interdepartmental committees/quality improvement and keeps nursing unit advised of changes and improvements.
Demonstrates responsibility for assigned communications and special assignments.
