Job Description:

Job Summary: The Registered Nurse I PRN assesses, plans, directs, implements, and assists to provide quality patient care for assigned patients. This role is committed to working a minimum number of shifts per the RN PRN Workplan agreement.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:

  1. Plans, assesses, directs, implements and provides quality patient care for assigned patients to include modifying nursing care, medication administration and discharge planning. Provides education directed towards individualized patient needs utilizing the nursing process in coordination with policies and procedures.

  2. Monitors changes in patient condition to include recording and reporting symptoms, assessing vital signs and intervening when appropriate.

  3. Performs complete data collection from patient presenting complaints and pertinent history.

  4. Collaborates with patients to identify treatment plan goals, and discharges patients as appropriate with a written discharge plan. Encourages family participation as appropriate for age and situation.

  5. Delivers nursing care to patients including assessment and planning of education directed towards identified knowledge deficits, treatment, pain management, and discharge utilizing the nursing process.

  6. Documents accurately in medical records, on forms, and in the computer entering appropriate orders, patient charges, and or other information, meeting standards, policy, and procedures.

  7. Delivers quality care by using multi-disciplinary team strategies and minimizing the risk of infection, harm, or injury.

  8. Maintains accurate detailed reports and records and directs care with regard to age and developmental stage, presenting complaint, and pertinent history.

  9. Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, staff, patients, and visitors.

  10. Anticipates deteriorating life sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate action.

  11. Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.

  12. Collaborates with patient care team members on patient care plan, incorporating consistent use of hand-off communication.

  13. Conducts and coordinates patient care and patient transfers in accordance with EMTALA regulations, as applicable.

  14. Performs additional department-specific functions as outlined in department procedures.

Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:

  • Nursing Diploma from an Accredited Diploma Program or Associate or higher Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing. assigned.
  • Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state within 90 days. assigned.
  • Must have a minimum of 12 months of experience as a practicing Registered Nurse. assigned.
  • 1 plus year of critical care experience as a practicing Registered Nurse if assigned to POH, Endoscopy, Phase II Recovery or PACU. assigned.
  • OR Nurse: Acceptance to JPS Periop 101 and completion of JPS Nurse Residency Program (Graduate Nurses); or acceptance to Periop 101 and previous nurse experience; or completion of a hospital-based operating room orientation/internship and previous OR experience. assigned.
  • Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment. assigned.
  • Current JPS-recognized Advanced Cardiac Life Support if assigned to the following areas: PACU, ENDO, POH, and Phase II Recovery, or obtains within 90 days of employment or transfer. assigned.
  • Must successfully complete, pass, and maintain all applicable and requisite training as established by each department in accordance with the JPS Clinical Job Specific Competency Validation Checklist. Completes the requisite certification and courses within the required timeframes, including but not limited to: assigned.
  • Competency-based orientation program within 90 days of employmentassigned.
  • EKG course within 90 days of employment and maintained throughout employment for Preop Holding, PACU, and Endoscopy. assigned.
  • Completion of Moderation Sedation Competency within 90 days of employment or Transfer if assigned to Endoscopy.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Certification in the area of nurse specialty.
