The Registered Nurse identifies patient’s needs and priorities for care through assessment. The RN plans and delegates care based on patient needs. The RN executes therapeutic physician orders and therapeutic nursing interventions. The RN evaluates the patient’s response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes. The RN is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned care span.
- Completes and documents infusion services assessment, plan of care, medication reconciliation, discharge information as well as all documentation required under procedure documentation; aware of coding requirements.
- Communicates with physician offices in order to receive correct information for coding purposes..
- Demonstrates thru actions, knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for outpatient procedures in the Infusion Services Department. Aware of prerequisite labs and/or how to calculate.
- Implements the plan of care for patient and family.
- Safely administers and controls medications and narcotics; initiates I.V. therapy and maintains same.
- Evaluates the response of patients/families to the plan of care; and communicates this appropriately to the Medical Team.
- Using EMR, documents the components of the Nursing process in the patient record. Maintains accurate medical records.
- Assists in orientation of new employees; flexible to schedule; performs all other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Accountable for appropriate utilization of resources. Assists with the collection of PI, Infection Control and quality control activities/data.
- Performs other duties as assigned and within scope of RN practice.
Additional Skill/Abilities:
- CPR certification or eligibility/capability to certify within 3 months of employment.
- Able to work under the following conditions: contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances; exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness); subject to varying and unpredictable situations; handles emergency or crisis situations; may perform emergency care; occasionally subjected to irregular hours; occasional stress due to multiple calls and inquiries.
- Capable of working overtime as required/on call scheduling weekends.
- Able to read, write and speak the English language.
- PALS and ACLS certification or within one year of employment.
- Chemotherapy certification, or within one year of employment.
