General job duties. Types of procedures required. Post-Op Surgical Patients, primarily orthopedics and general surgery. These patients are on one side and the other side is medical patients, isolation, dialysis etc. Telemetry patients can also be on this unit.
Equipment utilized in the unit/dept.
EPIC charting, CPM Machines, Cryocuffs, Pyxis for Medications, Alaris Smart Pumps, Kangaroo Feeding Pumps.
Required skills and minimum years of experience.
At least 1-year post-op surgical nursing. Telemetry experience preferred
Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required.
BLS. NIHSS would have to be completed during orientation if they don't have it.
Shift or schedule requirements.
No Call - Not ever alone. Big unit 40 bed capacity. Weekends would be needed. Block Scheduling can be accommodated. 12 hour shifts.
Floating to other units/departments.
Could have to float to Medical Surgical 4 East
Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.
40 bed unit.
Nurse to patient ratio of this unit.
1:6 is the max. Working to be 1:5 or 1:4.
Dress Code:
Navy Blue Scrubs or All White for Nursing. Navy, White or Black Shoes. All Tattoos must be covered.
Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program. Typically, candidates spend one day with Clinical Education, 1 - 12-hour shift orienting on the unit and then the third day on their own. All of this is very dependent on previous EPIC knowledge. If no EPIC, then orientation is longer.
