Job Title: Infusion Nurse
Overview:
We are working with a client seeking a skilled and compassionate Infusion Nurse. As an Infusion Nurse, you will be responsible for administering intravenous (IV) medications and therapies to patients in a variety of clinical settings. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the safe and effective delivery of infusion treatments while providing personalized care and support to patients throughout their infusion experience.
Responsibilities:
- Infusion Therapy Administration:
- Prepare and administer intravenous (IV) medications, biologics, and other infusion therapies according to physician orders and established protocols.
- Monitor patients during infusion therapy to assess vital signs, medication tolerance, and adverse reactions, intervening as necessary to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Utilize infusion pumps, IV catheters, and other medical equipment to accurately administer medications and maintain appropriate infusion rates.
- Patient Assessment and Education:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients prior to infusion therapy, including reviewing medical history, assessing vein integrity, and verifying medication allergies.
- Educate patients and caregivers about their infusion treatment plan, including medication administration techniques, potential side effects, and self-care strategies.
- Provide ongoing patient education and support regarding infusion therapy, medication management, and adherence to treatment protocols.
- Documentation and Recordkeeping:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of infusion therapy procedures, including medication administration, patient assessments, and vital signs monitoring.
- Document patient responses to infusion therapy, including any adverse reactions, changes in condition, or medication discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, documentation standards, and quality assurance protocols related to infusion therapy administration.
- Collaborative Care and Communication:
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care, review treatment plans, and address patient needs and concerns.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to facilitate continuity of care, promote patient engagement, and ensure optimal treatment outcomes.
- Serve as a resource and advocate for patients receiving infusion therapy, addressing questions, providing emotional support, and advocating for their healthcare needs.
- Infection Control and Safety:
- Adhere to strict infection control practices and safety protocols to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections and ensure a safe environment for infusion therapy administration.
- Maintain aseptic technique during IV catheter insertion, medication preparation, and infusion therapy procedures, following established guidelines and best practices.
- Monitor and maintain infusion equipment, supplies, and medication storage areas to ensure cleanliness, functionality, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in good standing.
- Certification in infusion therapy (e.g., CRNI) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a registered nurse, with experience in infusion therapy administration preferred.
- Proficiency in IV catheter insertion, medication calculations, and infusion pump operation.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
