Job Summary and Qualifications

A member of the trauma team - Facilitates the Ortho Trauma Performance and Patient Safety Program for Wesley Medical Center. Assumes primary responsibilities for designing, planning, developing, providing, and evaluating the trauma orthopedic programs’ performance standards based upon the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT) recommendations for quality as it relates to maintaining trauma center verification. In addition, this position will have direct and primary oversight for orthopedic trauma related performance improvement activities which are concordant with the Institute of Medicine’s six quality aims for patient care: safe, effective, patient centered, timely, efficient, and equitable. This position will collaborate with the Trauma Program Director (TMD), Trauma Program Manager (TPM), Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Coordinator (PIPS) and plan, implement, and evaluate trauma care to assure adherence to the Orthopedic Trauma Program’s Performance Improvement/Patient Safety (PIPS) program through clinical review-both concurrent and retrospective- and chart review of all trauma patients. This position will also collaborate with the Director of Trauma Research to support the trauma research requirements for trauma center verification through supporting locally-developed studies, multi-center studies and facility registry studies as this nursing position participates in the improvement of care for trauma patients. 

What you will do in this role:

  • Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Plan.
  • Maintain the Trauma PI database to ensure adequate documentation as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Complete concurrent review of cases to identify quality, timelines and systems of care to meet state standards.
  • Participate in hospital education programs for nurses and resident physicians caring for trauma patients.
  • Serve as a liaison to the clinical areas responsible for trauma patients.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary monthly Trauma Systems & Operations Committee and Peer Review meetings.


What qualifications you will need:
  • Current Licensure in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Current Multi-State Licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) verification course through American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross - Healthcare Provider CPR
  • Preferred certifications - CCS, CSTR, CAISS
  • Trauma Registry experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing - Bachelor's degree preferred
