Collaborates with nursing leadership and education professionals to organize, implement and evaluate education programs (orientation, in-services, competencies, classroom, etc.) at the unit level to facilitate skill development, competency and proficiency of standards of care for the staff.
- Plan, organize and facilitate ongoing education and competency for team members – will assess educational needs of each unit team, assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of in-services, educational offerings and competencies by using formal and informal teaching methods. Education and training regarding new equipment.
- Collaborates with Professional Development colleagues to provide a Nurse Residency program for newly graduated nurses.
- Assists unit leadership in facilitating clinical orientation for new team members – may provide limited at-the-elbow support as requested or collaborate with unit-based preceptors and unit leadership to establish action plans for orientees who are struggling.
- Mentors less experienced team members, guides professional behaviors while adhering to the policies and procedures of the organization, demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
- Collaborates with nursing leadership to support implementation of evidenced based practice into the department setting.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or currently enrolled in RN to BSN program with completion within two years of hire date. Master’s degree in nursing preferred.
- Minimum of three years’ registered nurse experience in service line educator will support. Five years nurse experience in service line educator will support preferred.
- Iowa RN license. Must obtain BLS Instructor status within one year of hire. Service line certification preferred.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently with little oversight.
- Demonstrates effective decision-making and problem-solving skills, flexibility, and the ability to take a leadership role in facilitating organizational change through partnerships with staff and managers.
- Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
- Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Manage priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
- Demonstrated knowledge of clinical skills related to patient safety.
- Knowledge of EPIC documentation preferred.
- Knowledge of simulation-based competencies preferred.
- Knowledge of PALS course preferred (Pediatrics only).
- Knowledge of Broselow scale and corresponding equipment preferred (Pediatrics only).
