This is a FT - Days position
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development, assessment and the care of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served.
- Conducts and documents nursing assessments through the collection and analysis of data.
- Responsible for delivery of perioperative nursing care to surgical patients.
- Maintains aseptic and safe environment in the Operating Room.
- Completes “time out” according to policy and documents appropriately.
- Ensures all necessary documents are accurate and within date prior to surgery.
- Identifies patient’s educational needs and learning barriers.
- Acts as a resource person and provides direction to other members of the health care team to ensure comprehensive and safe patient care.
- Assists with orientation and clinical education on new personnel and student nurses.
- Identifies unsafe patient care practice and assumes responsibility for intervention.
- Assists team members in selecting and preparing routine supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures.
- Accompanies patient to room, assists with inductions.
- Completes all required documentation.
- Gives patient status report to PACU nurse once procedure is completed
- Care and handling of all specimens according to policy.
- Nursing plan of care is developed to meet individual patient needs according to nursing standards of care/practice.
- Formulates and takes nursing actions to implement plan of care: records actions and patient response.
- Potential discharge needs are identified and communicated according to policy.
- Delivers care with respect to the individuals spiritual and cultural needs.
- Notifies surgeon and/or anesthesiologist of abnormal lab values and changes in patient condition.
- When assigned to standby call, responds within specified timeframe.
- Changes in patient’s physiological and behavioral status are recognized and documented as they occur.
- Adverse response to care or treatment is recognized.
- Shift reports reflect the patient’s status, progress and needs.
- Provides patient education and documentation of understanding regarding tests, procedures, equipment and medications, and that education necessary for the patient to meet continued healthcare needs.
- Physical-psycho social needs are consistently met for assigned patients.
- Patient care is prioritized and delegated based on patient needs and skills of staff.
- Provides patient care with consideration of professional ethics. Is aware of hospital ethics policy and utilizes as appropriate.
- Delivers medications according to policy.
- Responds appropriately to life threatening emergency codes.
- Communicates with patients family/significant other on an hourly basis and with any significant status change and appropriately documents.
- Assists with positioning of patients, provides protection of pressure points, and keeps body parts in proper alignment.
- May be assigned as charge nurse according to competency validation and departmental needs.
- All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current RN licensure
- Maintain current BLS/ACLS/PALS certification (or obtain prior to the completion of orientation)
- CNOR preferred
- Competent in both scrub and circulating skills with a minimum of 2 years OR experience preferred
