Summer Risk Management Internship

For 2024, one (1) summer Risk Management Intern will be selected to participate in the YB summer internship program. The YB summer Risk Management Intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience and contribute to the ongoing operations of a regulated business that transports freight of all kinds throughout the state of Hawaii. The YB risk manager intern will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of Risk Management by actively working on real projects with a mentor.

Duration:  90 days or less; May 2024 to September 2024.  Flexible start and end dates.

Location:  YB Administration Offices: 1331 N. Nimitz Highway (Pier 39/40)

Pay: $20/hour

Schedule: Schedule will be determined in collaboration with YB’s Director, Strategic Initiatives & Deputy General Counsel and the Risk Manager who will mentor the Intern.

Risk Manager Intern Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in customer claim management, particularly as it relates to unregulated cargo
• Support insurance program renewals
• Track, analyze and present claim trends to key stakeholders
• Respond to broker and carrier data requests
• Provide technical Risk Management advice to internal customers
• Assist in the development and implementation of Enterprise Risk Management
• Evaluate and implement improvement opportunities in Origami (claims handling software)
• Facilitate team meetings and prepare status reports
• Manage Certificate of Insurance requests and submissions

Requirements

• Must have completed course work leading to a Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in marine transportation, Risk Management, engineering, science & technology, or a related field
• GPA of at least 3.0
• Preference for students who have completed at least two years of coursework
• Able to handle confidential and sensitive company information well
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong computer skills (PowerPoint, Excel and Word and ability/willingness to learn new software)
• Ability to work well in teams
• Strong work ethic and ability to multi-task
