Description
The Port of Stockton internship program provides college students with "real world" professional work experience and the opportunity to gain marketable skills and insight into their potential career choices. The program is designed to provide students with exposure to jobs that fall within their scope of learning while gaining insight into specific business operations of the Port of Stockton to encourage pursuit of careers in maritime/port-related fields. The internship position is within the Regulatory and Public Affairs Department.
Examples of Duties
  • Catalog and document artifacts, drawings, and other miscellaneous items for Port Museum.
  • Clean artifacts for proper storage.
  • Research and develop the historic and chronological framework of museum artifacts.
  • Organizing/Sorting Archive's physical collections including paper/object collections.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • College major or related coursework in History, Sociology or Archival Studies.
  • Ability to understand archival standards, concepts, and best practices.
  • Strong research, organization, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and internet.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • General understanding of cataloging items and fundamentals.
  • Professional attitude and demeanor.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently.
  • Able to focus and accomplish given tasks with minimal/moderate supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Port staff and others.
  • Work is performed sitting, walking, or standing indoors or in a warehouse environment (possibly hot, cold, or dusty).

Work Environment:
  • Internship Program Length: Approximately June through August
  • Work Hours: Monday - Thursday (8AM to 4PM)
  • Work Schedule: Flexible
    • Part-Time (29 hours per week) or Full-time (30+ hours per week).
