Job Responsibilities
The employee in this position will serve as the DNR Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
Job Duties Include:
  • Leading the development, implementation and monitoring of the agency's security program through collaboration with agency IT, Legal and Human Resources Office and agency executive staff/leadership.
  • Coordinating with IT Director to develop and implement security policies in compliance with State Division of Information Security requirements and guidelines, developing budgets and strategic plans related to security initiatives.
  • Implementing and monitoring agency compliance with various industry, state, and federal guidelines that pertain to data privacy and information security including but not limited to: CJIS, PCI, NIST, etc.
  • Performing duties as assistant general counsel.
    • i.e.) litigating appeals involving hunting, fishing, and boating privilege suspensions at the administrative law court.
  • Reviewing contracts for DNR and managing other cases as required by general counsel.
  • Overseeing the development of the data classification process and privacy policies to ensure secure collection, handling, management, and dissemination of DNR customer data, Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or other sensitive data in accordance with State and Federal laws and regulations.
  • Initiating, facilitating and promoting communication and training activities to reinforce information security awareness throughout the organization.
  • Performing research on information security trends and advising organization management on information security best practices, and leading the development of guidelines to measure risk and determine incident response required in the event of an information security incident.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree and at least two (2) years experience in information technology and knowledge of federal and state privacy and data protection laws and regulations are required.
IAPP CIPP - US Certification completed within one (1) year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Juris Doctor preferred, but not required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate information security-related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to solicit participation and work cooperatively with agency staff, executive leadership and agency legal and human resources staff to develop comprehensive security policies and training programs to ensure and maintain agency awareness and preparedness to address security and privacy issues.
