The Risk Analyst II is a valued part of the cohesive team focused on protecting the assets of the credit union and its members. Key responsibilities include researching, detecting, and analyzing fraud patterns for all transactional channels to ensure risk mitigation strategies remain effective. An ideal candidate possesses the ability to detect patterns within data sets, a willingness to leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning, is alert to indicators or potential risk, and is detail oriented with tasks. This individual must be able to work independently, think critically, and make data-driven recommendations for asset protection.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize data from the Verafin solution to generate alerts for transaction analysis and detection
- Monitor account activity trends to recommend new account parameters or adjustments to existing account parameters
- Assist with written updates to procedures for reports or Verafin rules
- Conduct dynamic threat assessments and make recommendations for adjustments
- Assist with the implementation of adjustments to tool parameters or development
- Review fraud charge-off notifications received from third-party vendors to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for credit card accounts
- Document support for write-off entries for management and maintain user error database documentation for training purposes
- Analyze transactions and accounts to detect fraudulent or unauthorized activity
- Identify opportunities to reduce fraud losses based on initial indicators
- Perform quality assurance functions to ensure the efficacy of routine tasks
- Maintain reports to ensure credit union remains responsive to shifts in fraud tactics and trends
- Evaluate existing credit union tools designed to identify risk-related losses
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of current trends, laws, and issues affecting the area of expertise
- Attend educational events to increase professional knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field (A comparable combination of work experience and training may be substituted for education requirements)
- 2+ years of experience in fraud investigations or law enforcement investigations with a financial institution
- Digitial fraud background preferred
- Proficient knowledge of rule writing within VISA or VISA DPS
- Proficient experience reviewing alerts within Verafin
- Good analytical and quantitative skills, including root cause and trend analysis
- Ability to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities to meet deadlines
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators
- Ability to comprehensively communicate facts, policies, and practices
- Ability to analyze and resolve routine problems and situations
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job responsibilities
