The Role

QuidelOrtho is looking for a Reverse Logistics Engineer Intern that wants to spend their 2024 summer working towards our mission: Changing Lives, One Test at a Time. Interns will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and develop their skills all while contributing to key company projects and initiatives. Our team will help students apply their educational background and broaden their knowledge base within their role and learn more about working in the medical device/biotech industry. Interns will work with a mentor(s) on a guided and impactful project and will be able to collaborate with and be part of a supportive and dedicated team.

This Internship is a full-time (40 hours per week) paid program for 12-weeks.

Cohort 1: May 20th through August 12th

Cohort 2: June 17th through September 9th

This Intern will be on-site working in a hybrid schedule between our Rochester, NY facility and our warehouse.

The Responsibilities

  • Mapping the end-to-end core Reverse Logistics process from customer location to REM including transfers and storage locations.
  • Completing stakeholder analysis including field engineers (who pack the analyzer at the customer site), logistics partners (trucking), warehouse partners (storage and handling), QuidelOrtho Operations (use the cores) QuidelOrtho logistics, QuidelOrtho packaging and finance.
  • Identify root causes of damage, evaluate practical solutions and implement process improvements / controls to prevent the damage. Creativity before capital.
  • Define measures to effectively manage the ongoing process to prevent recurrence of damage.
  • Well defined measures including definitions, data collection, calculations, templates and baseline data.
  • Clear recommended solutions to prevent future damage including quantified expectations of impact and ROI.
  • Internal and external stakeholder buy-in to implement measures and recommendations.
  • Implementation plan moving forward.
  • The intern will present a poster OR PowerPoint presentation on his/her work to a cross-functional group.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Field of Study: Industrial, manufacturing, packaging, supply chain or mechanical engineer.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects for which the best solution will not be obvious.
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's or Master's program in the Fall Semester 2024 at an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum GPA 3.0 or higher.
  • Able to start on either May 20th or June 17th.
  • Ability to complete a consecutive 10-12 week internship.
  • Job will require on-site investigation of cores at the Rochester warehouse which will include moving unpacking and repacking analyzer cores.
  • Must have work authorization in the United States at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred:

  • Rising Junior or Senior at an accredited university or college.
  • Experience with analytics.

The Work Environment

Combination of warehouse and administrative duties, though occasional light lifting of unpackaging and repacking analyzer and related materials is required. Additionally time in meetings, working with team, or talking on the phone, at the desk on computer, doing analytical work.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary range for current Freshman, rising Sophomore is 18.00/hour; Sophomore, rising Junior is 20/hour; Junior, rising senior is $23.00/hour to $26.00/hour; Senior, enrolled in school for fall 2024 is 25.00/hour to 28.00/hour; or currently enrolled Graduate, MBD, PhD program is 28.00/hour to 30.00/hour. At QuidelOrtho, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
