BASIC FUNCTION:Responsible for greeting customers, making them feel comfortable and ensure that the experience they receive makes them want to return to Koopman Lumber and tell their friends about their experience. Tasks include receiving payment from customers for merchandise or service; waiting on customers, answering telephone inquiries, keeping displays and store well maintained, clean, organized and safe.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet customers when they enter the store
- Operates cash register, makes change, and issues receipts to customers
- Counts cash drawer at either opening and/or closing of the day
- Takes payments on charge accounts
- Issues gift cards
- Takes deposits on special orders
- Issues refunds or credits as necessary
- Interacts in a positive, pleasant and prompt manner with customers in person and on the telephone
- Assists with questions regarding merchandise, location of merchandise in store, pricing and promotions
- Refers store credit applications and bad checks to Credit Department
- Provides the highest level possible of service to all customers with the main objective of serving our retail customers
- Provides customers with information on additional items related to purchases made
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the products sold, product usage, product prices and new products on the market
- Maintains stock, cleans, dusts, displays and faces products for assigned area
- Attends and participates in all company-sponsored training programs as required
- Promotes team concept
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate a cash register (computer) equipment
- Ability to do math, read orders, follow instructions
- Ability to communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal and written skills
- Good telephone etiquette
- Good interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques
- Be aware of and follow the We Believe statements and MSDT ECET objectives
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to stand up to 6 hours at a time
- Ability to reach overhead to grasp materials
- Ability to sit, climb or balance, lift, twist, and bend, stoop or squat to floor level on a repetitive basis
- Strength: regularly lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity
ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Working both indoors in controlled temperature, and occasionally outdoors in varying elements
