SUMMARY
The Keeneland Association, the leader in Thoroughbred sales & racing, is seeking quality candidates for an Internship with the Department of Retail Development. As an intern you will work with a variety of our staff and gain a one of a kind experience. This internship provides a candidate with a unique opportunity to work closely with exclusive premier brands, to gain experience with the merchandising, planning and buying process, and to gain exposure to the daily shop operations.
Store Operations
- Hands on exposure to various roles within the Retail Department such as Store Management, Warehouse Management, Sales, Accounts Payable, Marketing and eCommerce.
- Work on the sales floor gaining product knowledge and store operational procedures.
- Utilize Point of Sale system.
- Build cross functional relationships with internal departments at Keeneland such as Marketing, Sales, Broadcasting, and Human Resources.
- Develop an understanding of the Planning process for the Keeneland Shop and how it relates to our goals.
- Create and implement business related projects as assigned by management.
eCommerce, Marketing, and Creative
- Assist in processing web orders via Counterpoint, NCR Retail Online, and UPS Worldship.
- Assist in order fulfillment for eCommerce orders and online customer service requests.
- Name and push eCommerce items to the website via Counterpoint.
- Acquire product descriptions and images from vendors websites and ftp sites.
- Product preparation for product photography such as steaming, folding, tagging the product.
- Assist in developing email blasts, social media campaigns, giveaways, and special events.
- Assist in curating social media content and customer service related communications through Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
Merchandise and Inventory
- Attend buying and forecasting meetings with premier fashion brands.
- Assist in creating and implementing special events, fashion shows, trunk shows, and fashion shoot sessions.
- Conduct inventory counts at the shop and warehouse to update in system.
- Work closely with Warehouse Manager to assist in shipping and receiving.
Race Meet
- Must work Race Meet schedule during April and October. Work the sales floor assisting customers in the shop, restocking inventory, and work kiosks in the Paddock area when needed.
Nice To Have
- Currently enrolled to earn a degree in Retail Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles; Communications; Integrated Strategic Communications or a related field.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work with diverse clients.
- Organized with the ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.
- Creative and flexible.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Ability to lift, push, pull or carry up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to follow Keeneland's policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with social networking sites desired.
- Interest in the equine industry preferred.
