Respiratory Therapist Supervisor - Roseville

Under the supervision of the Administrator and Director of Nursing, the RT Department Supervisor will provide the following services, and when needed, the services outline in the “RCP Department Staff Job Description” (see policy):

I. Create and maintain the RCP staffing calendar, which includes:

A. Gathering RCP staff availability at least two weeks before the next month,

B. Ensure there is adequate RCP staffing to meet the needs of the facility.

C. Completing and posting the next month’s RT work calendar no more than five days before the next month begins, and

D. Find RT staff to cover sick calls and approved days off.

II. Supervise and assist the RCPs in their daily shift duties, ensuring that the Respiratory Care standards of practice, as well as State and Federal regulations are followed.

III. Supervise and participate in the clinical management of the resident’s respiratory care.

IV. Divides or supervises the distribution of daily workloads, and that the residents are assigned to RTs that are qualified to care for all the resident’s acuity levels.

V. Audits RT documentation to ensure the completion of and proper documentation of:

A. Mechanical ventilation residents

B. Tracheostomies

C. Initial Evaluations, and Weekly Evaluations,

D. Respiratory Care Plans

E. Tracheostomy tube change documentation, and the 72-hour trach change COC form.

F. RT Medical Administration Record (MAR), and

G. Any resident Code, Rapid Response, or 911 send-out.

VI. Ensure the resident respiratory care physician orders are appropriate for the resident and are carried out as ordered. VII. Orders respiratory care related supplies and equipment as needed, as well as ensures the proper amounts are on hand to meet the needs of the subacute units’ residents.

VIII. Conducts and documents monthly/weekly inspections/maintenance of respiratory equipment.

IX. Assist in the subacute units’ monthly recapitulation of resident physician orders as needed.

X. Provide and conduct respiratory related trainings and in-services to the subacute staff as needed.

XI. If needed, in an RT staffing emergency (i.e., none or inadequate RCP staffing) will “fill in” and cover the subacute unit until adequate staffing is found.

XII. Provide disciplinary counseling (verbal and written) to RCP personal as appropriate.

Qualifications

I. Graduate of an approved AMA School of Respiratory Care

II. Current State RCP license

III. Certified in Basic Life Support (American Heart Association)

IV. Must have excellent organization skills.

V. Must have a minimum of one year of mechanical ventilator and tracheostomy tube experience.

VI. Must be able to communicate and work well with all the healthcare providers.

VII. Must have conflict mitigation and de-escalation skills.

VIII. Must have computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Word and Excel)

IX. Must be able to lead and supervise the RT staff in a fair and effective manner.

Physical Demands

I. Must be able to work under stress and in emergency situations.

II. Must be able to work under conditions that require sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, and grasping.

III. Visual acuity is required to observe details of instruments required for respiratory care and life support.
