The Encampment is looking for two Residential, Wellness and Recreation Assistants who are passionate about social justice and experienced with adolescents in a residential setting for our youth leadership development summer program.
Organization: The Encampment for Citizenship offers a residential summer leadership program for youth ages 15-18. Approximately 24 young people from diverse ethnic, economic, social, religious and geographic backgrounds participate in the 3-week program. They explore a variety of social and political issues; challenge ethnic, cultural, gender and sexual orientation stereotypes; and develop their critical thinking and analytical skills.
Summer Program: The Encampment summer program will be held at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, July 2-23, 2024. The curriculum will focus on Civil and Voting Rights.
Position Purpose: Provide support for all program activities, including driving for field trips, etc.; help to ensure a positive atmosphere and health and safety of participants, including making sure they are where they are supposed to be at meal times and at night; and some admin duties. With Community Life Director and staff, help to create a healthy site environment.
Successful applicant must have good organizational skills; be flexible; able to work with young people in a range of situations, including conflicts that can be stressful and emotionally charged; have good boundaries; strong leadership abilities and ability to work as part of team.
Compensation: room and board, plus $3,500 and travel expenses.
