RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM COUNSELOR

Under the joint supervision of the Clinical Coordinator and Chief Operating Officer, provides individual and

group clinical supervision, evaluative, educational, and case management services to clients and families within

the charge of program initiatives; provides related work as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

The Counselor performs the following duties and responsibilities under the direct supervision of an

appropriately licensed clinician:

· Assists the Clinical Coordinator, the Chief Operating Officer in the development and implementation of clinical and programmatic elements of our organizations service delivery system.

· Works in close concert with Admissions and Medical personnel and BHTs in the screening, assessment, and orientation of chemically affected individuals who are referred for services and completes all necessary state required documents for each client.

· Prepares written bio-psycho-social assessments, master problem lists, and develops individualized treatment plans and other approved clinical and diagnostic elements within established thresholds set by the Institute utilizing ASAM PPC IIR criteria.

· Ensures that all Institute-approved clinical treatment elements are effectively provided and properly documented within established time thresholds as articulated in the Written Plan for Professional Services and the Plan for Quality Improvement.

· Under the supervision of the Clinical Coordinator and Chief Operating Officer, provides case management and approved clinical service elements to his/her assigned phase caseload including individual, group, family counseling, and psycho-educational lectures remaining cognizant at all times of the special needs and variable length-of-stay requirements of each client.

· Participates in weekly clinical team reviews and supervision, prepares client case management presentations, and makes self-available for reviews from the Clinical Coordinator and Chief Operating Officer.

· Works closely with the Clinical Coordinator and the Medical Department to gather appropriate data to justify ASAM admission, continued-stay criteria, and DAS level of care criteria. When requested, will monitor clients in the collection and processing of urine specimens in accordance with program policy and procedures.

· Must be familiar with, and adhere to, all written programs policies, procedures, and confidentiality regulations.

· Works in close collaboration with Clinical Coordinator and BHTs ensuring that the seven day per week continuum of professionally supervised clinical services and Institute authorized activities are maintained at all times.

· Participates in a minimum of one hour per week of clinical supervision from a designated and credentialed Program Supervisor (LCADC) that is a privileged member of the Professional Staff Organization.

· Participates in staff committee structure as assigned.

· Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate with external regulators, integrators, and referral networks such as insurance companies, managed care networks, vocational rehabilitation programs, and criminal justice systems.

· Understanding of and familiarity with addiction, withdrawal, and treatment resources for recovery, including 12-step programs.

· Ability to deal assertively and effectively with patient conflicts and conduct verbal de-escalation intervention.

If needed, has the opportunity to speak with Board members for pertinent information.

· Demonstrated commitment to maintaining professional boundaries and setting a positive example of

behaviors for patients.

· Runs various groups based on schedule supplied by Clinical Coordinator

· Must assist in AMA/ACA Blocking

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

· CADC or LCADC, and or

· Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, or in a related field of study (preferred). High School diploma is acceptable if (a) enrolled in college and/or (b) has additional years’ experience working in the field of chemical dependency.

Certifications:

· CADC or LCADC.

· Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); may also be in progress.

Experience:

· If the employee has attained the bachelor’s or master’s degree: three years’ experience working in a chemical dependency treatment facility.

· If the employee has attained the High School diploma in conjunction with the CADC: five years’ experience working in a chemical dependency treatment facility.

License:

· Appointee will actively engage in ongoing educational opportunities in the pursuit of licenses within their discipline.

· Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in the State of New Jersey.

· Receive a full background check and fingerprint review

Knowledge and Abilities:

· Thorough knowledge of the current facts, theories, hypotheses, programming, and research concerning the phenomenon of chemical dependency.

· Thorough knowledge of the bio-psycho-social model of clinical case management, ASAM admission criteria, continued-stay, and discharge criteria for Medically Monitored Sub-Acute Care Facilities.

· Ability to comprehend and adjust to individuals of varied types, including professionals in other disciplines, staff, clients, and their families.

· Ability to analyze, comprehend, interpret, and apply basic laws, rules, regulations, and procedures to specific situations.

· Ability to learn to collect, integrate, and appraise factual information, and the social relationships of individuals and families, to learn quickly the essential and significant facts in individual and/or family situations. To weigh and evaluate such facts, and to take appropriate action.

· Ability to comprehend the problems of persons who are physically and/or emotionally maladjusted who may be chemically dependent.

· Ability to analyze, comprehend, interpret, and apply basic laws, rules, regulations, and procedures to specific situations.

· Ability to learn to collect, integrate, and appraise factual information, and the social relationships of individuals and families, to learn quickly the essential and significant facts in individual and/or family situations. To weigh and evaluate such facts, and to take appropriate action.

· Ability to comprehend the problems of persons who are physically and/or emotionally maladjusted who may be chemically dependent.

· Ability to maintain a mature, firm, and consistently professional attitude at all times.

· Ability to prepare accurate, articulate, and informative reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
