Job Summary

The Residential Services Unit Clerk is responsible for administrative duties related to the day to day operations of the DBH adult residential programs (Crisis Recovery Unit and Receiving Center). The residential unit clerk will work closely with the supervisor and director to maintain 24-hour operations, including creating, publishing, and maintaining the schedule for shift coverage at both programs.

The Unit Clerk must possess exemplar organizational and communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and charisma are also required to effectively work with coverage staff in both programs to ensure that all necessary shifts are filled.

The Residential Services Unit Clerk will also be required to work as a Psych Tech to assist with unit coverage as needed.

Psych Techs responsibilities that may be required work as front-line support staff in the Crisis Recovery Unit. Psych Techs work directly with clients experiencing mental health and co-occurring crises by engaging with clients individually, managing the milieu, attending to client needs, providing supervision, de-escalating crisis situations, working in coordination with other service providers on the unit, and maintain a positive recovery environment.

Essential Job FunctionsUnit Clerk Specific Duties

The Residential Services Unit Clerk will perform the following clerk responsibilities:

  • Complete and submit census for the Crisis Recovery Unit, Receiving Center, and TTP.
  • Complete and submit authorizations for Integrated Select Health and Health Choice.
  • Enter intakes in Credible.
  • Conduct Chart Audits to ensure Crisis Recovery Unit and Receiving Center charts are complete.
  • Order supplies for the Crisis Recovery Unit and the Receiving Center.
  • Complete all relevant employee training classes and clinical staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Scheduling Responsibilities

The Residential Services Unit Clerk will complete scheduling responsibilities for DBH's residential program with the following expectations:

  • Work directly with the Program Supervisor to prepare, publish, and maintain monthly schedules.
  • Work with Program Supervisor to ensure that all part-time shift employees are scheduled 1-3 on-call shifts per week in addition to their regular shifts, as required.
  • Publish schedule 30 days prior to beginning of month.
  • Coordinate with shift leads and Program Supervisor for coverage needs.
  • Coordinate schedules for new CRU and Receiving Center coverage staff to attend required training.
Psych Tech Assignments

The following Psych Tech responsibilities are also expected to be completed by the Residential Services Unit Clerk:

  • Provide direct supervision and support of the clients on the unit to include crisis intervention, 15-minute visual checks and other various activities.
  • Monitor client's behaviors, intervene quickly to provide de-escalation services and maintain client/staff safety. Follow agency protocol for consequences to clients as needed in a respectful manner.
  • Take crisis calls and apply crisis intervention skills to clients experiencing distress from 5pm-8am. Trigae calls to on call crisis workers.
  • Assist clients in accomplishing treatment objectives as outlined by clinical/medical staff and observe and reinforce positive progress that clients make towards recovery goals.
  • Facilitate/co-facilitate skills development groups and assist clinical staff in group activities as needed.
  • Assist clients in learning life skills that will increase their success in their home and community.
  • Document client behaviors, case management activities, group services and visual checks.
  • Transport clients utilizing agency vehicles for appointments and other off unit approved activities.
  • Complete light cleaning duties, which requires the ability to bend down and wipe down mattresses, clean high traffic areas, taking out the garbage, sweeping floors, etc.
  • Assist in inventorying of client items upon intake/discharge and putting away supplies.
  • Search the facility and client belongings.
CompensationBase Wages

The hourly rate for this position is outlined below

  • $17.75 per hour for Psych Techs with less than 1 year of related experience at time of hire or peer candidates without a bachelors degree
  • $18.75 per hour for peer candidates with a bachelors degree and no professional license.
Stipend

This position is eligible for a $50 per bi-weekly pay period stipend associated with scheduling responsibilities.

Schedule

The Residential Services Unit Clerk will work Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on-site plus an additional 10 hours per week off-site responding to scheduling needs for the CRU and Receiving Center. The schedule may be modified to improve efficiency, as needed. The successful candidate must be flexible and have a positive attitude towards the 10 off-site hours that could come at any time of the day via phone call or text to help with shift coverage.

Location

The CRU is located at 2250 North 1700 West, Layton, Utah 84041.

Required Qualifications

Strong preference will be given for candidates with direct professional experience working in a mental health and/or substance use treatment residential program.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education/Licensure/Certification

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates with an educational background in psychology, social work, addiction recovery, and related fields will be given preference. However, prior certification is not required. DBH will train and certify new staff members. First aid/CPR certification and a Food Handler's Permit must be completed within 30 days of hire.

Experience Required

Previous experience is not required, but experience working in the social work field and/or working with people who have serious mental illness will be helpful and is strongly preferred. Experience will be provided via on-the-job training and job-shadowing upon hire. The selected candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal and background check in addition to pre-employment drug screening.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

The Residential Services Unit Clerk must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in reading and writing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of residential crisis and high criminal risk environment and can work with and provide support to clients who are experiencing a mental health crisis, detoxing from illicit substances, are serious and persistently mentally ill, suicidal etc.
  • Understanding of personal and professional boundaries, distress tolerance, problem solving and decision-making skills and apply interpersonal communication skills to problem solve directly with clients and co-workers in a high stress crisis environment.
  • Ability to move quickly and efficiently through intake and discharge process.
  • Ability to establish trusting relationships with clients.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Work scheduled shifts.
  • Have good knowledge of the city's public transit system.
  • Ability to use computer to record services or be willing to learn.
Required Training

The following training is required and must be completed by the due dates provided on the Employee Training Requirements log provided by the Human Resources Department. All new employee and annual training is also required for employment.

  • Electronic Health Record (Credible)
  • Welle, including self-protection.
  • First Aid/CPR
  • TB Test
  • Food Handler Permit
