Who we are

Maple Lake Academy is a residential treatment center for adolescents (boys and girls 13 to 18) on the autistic spectrum.  Our students are high functioning dealing with deficits in social skills, life skills, inability to understand their own emotions or put their emotions in to words.  We provide a safe and nurturing home like environment for our students to learn skills that push them in the areas mentioned above. Our team works with our client population daily, hands on, and in one on one situations.

Maple Lake Academy sets ourselves apart in the mental-health industry by using an attachment-based approach, focusing on relationship building and modeling what healthy, secure relationships look and feel like. As a member of the MLA team, you'll be trained extensively in attachment styles, and how to best help teens in our program to build healthy relationships with themselves, their peers, and caregivers. Residential Manager Role

Residential Manager is responsible for the day to day house, student and parent needs. Residential manager supervises the shift supervisors and manages their ability, trainings and monitoring of the shift. Residential Manager works with the treatment team to support he students in the most effective way while supporting the on-shift staff. They are responsible for the cleanliness and maintaining of the house. They manage needs of the student including but not limited to clothing, shoes, mail, day to day schedule and activities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree Preferred 
  • Previous experience in the mental health field 
  • Previous experience in a similar role or as a mentor or life coach. 
  • Previous leadership experience 
  • Age 21+ 
  • Ability to pass background check upon hire 
  • Must be willing to give a 1-year commitment
  • Must be willing to give a 12-month commitment to this position.
  • Food Handlers Permit upon hire
  • Valid driver license upon hire


Schedule

  • 40 hrs./week, Willing to work a standard M-F work week, unless otherwise determined based on needs at the time.
  • Available to be on call at all times
  • This position requires flexibility with schedule based on need.  Needs may arise from time to time and fluctuate based upon needs of the student community.  These needs are not common everyday occurrences.  This position requires someone who can be flexible and has a willingness to help out when needed or support their team in making decisions when help is needed.
  • The residential manager carries the residential on call phone at times throughout the week.  This phone is to be monitored 24 hours a day.  However, responsibility for carrying this phone and monitoring will be delegated amongst a residential on call team.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work
  • Engage in weekly treatment team meeting and communicate pertinent information
  • Complete written treatment team updates and master treatment plans on Best Notes
  • Update residential and holiday schedules
  • Maintain fully stocked hygiene, janitorial, and office supplies
  • Prepare house and provide needs for new admissions
  • Communicate directly with parents regarding students’ needs
  • Obtain appropriate paperwork on each student necessary upon admissions.
  • Other duties as assigned or as they come up based on needs
  • Occasional medication administration
  • Working directly with supervisors who administer medication. Coordinate with nurse a quarterly training with supervisors on medication administration
  • Teach and train PCS
  • Attend yearly PCS instructor training
  • Monitor residential cleanliness, hygiene and safety
  • On admission call parents within two days
  • Upon discharge ensure student is packed and completed discharge checklist.
  • Training: Meet weekly for managers meeting, treatment team, and department meeting
  • Be creative, take initiative, implement programs that will improve the residential department
  • Parent Weekend: Coordinate passes, staffing, answer parents’ questions.
  • Commitment to providing culturally competent services, with an ongoing commitment to training and development
  • Coordinate transportation during home passes
  • Collect and monitor Q-15s
  • Follow up with supervisors regarding meeting minutes, safety drills, and trainings.
  • Plan yearly supervisor retreat
  • Train staff to implement therapeutic intervention for each client and how to provide structure, implement rules, implement time management, help with ADL’s, help clients process feelings/emotions
  • Responsible for the physical, emotional, spiritual, mental, educational, social, safety and security needs of each student.
  • Responsible for the needs of those who work in the residential department, first to your supervisors, then assistants, then mentors.
  • Provides support during disciplinary actions, provides documentation for verbal warnings, coaches supervisors in doing the same
  • Provide feedback to those struggling or who need extra support
  • Has exceptional relationship skills
  • Has exceptional work history showing they are dependable, reliable, receive and carry out instruction, and genuinely care for others
  • Ensures that the residential staff are helping students to keep a clean home environment
  • Attention to detail and environmental awareness
  • Is aware of the Success program and how to implement it within the residential department
  • Has completed the med training and taken the medication test
  • Completes and maintains all required trainings
  • Has a completed employee file (trainings)
  • Keeps personal feelings and emotions from influencing decisions
  • Maintain a professional demeanor
  • Maintain confidential information
  • Manage, discipline and communicate with employees and co-workers in other departments
  • Communicate and convey instruction from administration regarding policies and or changes
  • Conduct evaluations with Shift Managers
  • Set goals for those you supervise and document and communicate pertinent information regarding employee performance
  • Conduct interviews to hire Shift Mnagers and train them once hired.
  • Train and implement trainings to help in employees within the department and their growth
  • Conduct weekly Shift Managers trainings

Position Relationships

  • Supervised by: Program Director
  • Interpersonal Relationships/ Personal Contacts: Maple Lake Academy Department Heads, Treatment Team, Residential Employees

Decision-making skills. Residential Manager must be able to balance the strengths and weaknesses of different options and decide the best decision. Many decisions have a significant impact on clients.

Interpersonal skills. Residential Manager need strong interpersonal skills because they regularly interact with people. They will often collaborate on teams and must develop positive working relationships with their co-workers. 

Leadership skills.  Residential Manager must be able to direct/lead the those they supervise. They must coordinate and communicate well. Have the ability to give direct feedback in the moment as needed. 

Organizational skills. Organizational skills are essential for the Residential Manager. They must be able to manage several projects and tasks at once, and prioritize.  Maintain close communication with the team they work with giving pertinent and important information as needed.  Attentive to detail


An ATTACHMENT Approach

Most youth residential treatment programs use a behavioral approach to therapeutic and residential support, but we set ourselves apart for our students by using an attachment-based approach. Everything we do is through the lens of attachment theory. As a member of the MLA team, you'll get great training in attachment styles, and how to best help teens in our program to build healthy relationships with themselves, their peers, and caregivers. Additionally, we focus on helping students identify the core issues behind their behaviors and thoughts, and then how to address those core needs. We seek to create a safe environment for students and employees to learn, grow, develop, explore, make mistakes, and build lasting impactful relationships with those around them.


Commitment

To maintain the stability and effectiveness in our program, and because our residents value the relationships they build with their mentors, it is important that our staff are committed to the role they undertake at Maple Lake Academy. While we do not require a minimum commitment period in the position; we believe it's important that staff are committed to their position for at least a six months to a year. Many Mentors at Maple Lake Academy's programs have been contributing their talents for at least 2 or more years, which also provides you a great team of dedicated coworkers!
