Resident in Counseling

Obsidian Therapy Group (in conjunction with The National Association of Black Counselors, Inc.) is looking to add more Residents in Counseling to its outpatient residency program. Come be a part of an agency that is committed to providing the best training/supervision to residents and exemplary mental health services to the community-especially the BIPOC (Black Indigenous Persons of Color) community. We offer training, experience, guidance, and supervision that will assist in reaching your career aspirations!

This opportunity is perfect for the LPC resident looking for outpatient hours (20 hr/wk) or someone looking to grow into a full-time outpatient practice (40 hr/wk). Position includes providing children, individual, family, substance abuse counseling, intensive outpatient counseling, and care coordination, through outpatient therapy programs. Residents may have the option to work with multiple populations.

Residency Qualifications:

Educational/Experience Requirements:

• LPC or Eligibility for VA residency in Counseling
• Master's Degree Counseling, or another related field
• Knowledge of counseling, evidence based therapeutic techniques and strategies
• Must have ethical and professional standards in congruence with the VA Board of Counseling.
• Marketing/advertising skills (not a requirement, but desired)
• 3 Professional references required (residents can use professors)
• At least one year of clinical experience providing direct services to children/adults with a diagnosis of mental illness.
• Knowledge of mental health services and agencies.

Responsibilities:

• Commit to the residency program mission, counseling, administration, and activities
• Advertise for, create and form a caseload
• Develop personalized therapeutic style
• Maintain client files, accurate complete paperwork and notes and schedule of hours
• Commit to chosen client population
• Membership in required Professional Counseling Organizations
• Maintain professional liability insurance
• Advertise on behalf of The Obsidian Therapy Group, for a set number of hours per week
• High level of flexibility, cooperation, collaboration, team player mentality, ethics and work ethic
