Job description

The Biology Department at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs is seeking a Research Technician to work at 95% time in the Biology Department to assist in research on the genetic basis of fertility and reproductive incompatibilities in Drosophila. The Research Technician will be expended to perform research-related duties, including but not limited to assisting in laboratory experiments, assisting in writing manuscripts for publication, aiding in grant writing, ordering and managing laboratory supplies, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

Work Location:

On-site

Remote work will be available for emergency events. This will be offered based on the emergency and allowance will come from leadership and the guidelines provided at the time of the emergency.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). 

What We Offer:

Generally starting at $41,768.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

This position is dependent on the availability of external grant funding. Funding is currently expected to last three (3) years.

TentativeSearchTimeline:

  • Priority will be given to applications submitted by November 30th, 2023 by 5:00 pm MST. However, this posting will remain open until filled.
  • The potential dates for first round of interviews will be the week of December 4th, 2023.
  • The potential employee start date is January 2nd, 2024.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS or BA in Biology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's in Biology.
  • Drosophila food preparation.
  • Experience with yeast culture.
  • Experience with SILAC proteomics.
  • Previous experience working with Drosophila mojavensis/D. arizonae.
  •  Experience with standard molecular techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and DNA sequence analysis. 
  • Experience operating standard laboratory equipment including nanodrop spectrophotometer, centrifuge, thermocycler, autoclave, and shaking incubator.
