The Molecular Biology Department at UT Southwestern mission is to conduct high-impact internationally recognized research, and to educate and train the next generation of leaders in biomedical research. The research in Molecular Biology focuses on understanding mechanisms that control normal and abnormal cell growth and differentiation during development and disease.
Job SummaryThe Molecular Biology Department has an opening for a Research Technician II to join the team. The Research Technician II will assist with following tasks:
Assist with restraint, handling and experimental manipulation of various animal species as assigned.
Calculate and prepare reagents for animal experimental manipulation and cell culture mediums.
Maintain cell cultures using aseptic techniques.
Maintain accurate department animal procedures and cell culture records.
Perform daily housekeeping such as disinfecting of cell culture hoods, work surfaces and equipment.
Monitor equipment for needed repairs.
Order, upload, and stock supplies.
Perform ELISA. Adhere to safety procedures and comply with and wear required personal protective equipment.
Maintain required attendance and work schedule.
Experience and EducationBachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required.
Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
High school graduation or GED and four (4) years laboratory experience to include two (2) years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
Job DutiesPerforms routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
Assists in collection of data for project reports.
Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
Performs other duties as assigned.
