Dr. Josephine Ni is a physician-scientist in the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases currently exploring bacterial colonization of the healthy and inflamed intestinal tract with the goal of modulating the gut microbiota to treat Intestinal Diseases. Dr. Ni is looking for a Research Technician to work as part of a team investigating host-microbial interactions. While prior research experience with either mouse handling and/or microbial culture is strongly preferred, this position will involve on-the-job training and acquisition of new skills.
Experience and EducationBachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required. or
Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent. or
High school graduation or GED and four (4) years laboratory experience to include two (2) years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
Laboratory ExpectationsMouse colony management and bacterial culture.
Molecular techniques such as PCR and cloning.
In vivo mouse experiments utilizing techniques such as oral gavage.
Harvesting and processing of mouse tissues.
Performing basic data analysis.
Attending and presenting data during lab meetings.
Actively engage in project discussions, attending seminars, and assisting other lab members.
Job DutiesPerforms routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
Assists in collection of data for project reports.
Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
Performs other duties as assigned.
