Job description

The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Study Coordinator to join the Johns Hopkins site of the Precision Aging Network (PAN), a large, multi-center study. The overarching goal of the study is to create profiles of risk for cognitive decline in a large, diverse cohort of middle-aged and older adults without dementia. The study assessments include cognitive testing and health-related questionnaires (collected both online and in person), biometric assessments, blood collection, assessments of blood vessels using ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Working with the Healthy Minds for Life study team, this position will conduct in-person research visits with middle-aged and older adults with and without cognitive impairment and implement day-to-day study activities.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Assist with the completion of the study procedures, including phone eligibility screenings with potential participants to determine if they meet enrollment criteria.
  • Schedule participants for in-person visits and arranging transportation as needed.
  • Prepare materials for in-person study visits.
  • Administer and score in-person assessments including cognitive testing, biometric assessments, questionnaires, and carotid ultrasound imaging.
  • Accompany participants to other study procedures, such as MRI scans, blood draws and lumbar punctures.
  • Process, label, store and ship biospecimens.
  • Complete study forms and enter data from study visits into an electronic database.
  • Monitor the completion of additional cognitive testing and questionnaires that participants complete online from home.
  • Organize participant reimbursements and honoraria.
  • Responsible for assisting with participant recruitment and retention efforts, working with the Sr. Community Outreach Coordinator.
  • Attend regular meetings with the study team and study leadership at Johns Hopkins.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Requires familiarity with basic medical terminology and good computer skills.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a health-related field and with clinical research
  • Proficiency with EXCEL and REDCap
  • Ability to handle detailed quantitative information.
  • Able to work independently with modest direction.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
