Job Summary (Primary function):
The Research Scientist, Pharmaceutical Development provides Pharmaceutical Development support for assigned drug development programs.
Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities):
  • Perform hands-on pre-formulation/formulation development for designated drug development programs in collaboration with supervisor.
  • Perform blending, screening, wet formulation, roller compaction and tableting amongst other solid dosage form operations at a small lab scale.
  • Maintain good documentation for procedure used in formulation development.
  • Perform HPLC/UPLC dissolution on capsules/tablets.
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of instrumentation.
  • Prepares data summaries and reports and interprets data in collaboration with supervisor.
  • Knowledge of sustained release dosage form development.

Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency):
  • B.S. with 2-4 years of related pharmaceutical experience or M.S. in Pharmaceutical Science with 0-2 years of related pharmaceutical experience.
  • Hands-on experience using formulation equipment such as blenders, granulators, roller compaction equipment, tablet presses, tablet coating, etc.
  • Understanding of physical pharmacy and concepts in preformulation and formulation.
  • Hands-on experience in using analytical equipment such as UPLC, KF, and dissolution apparatus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members.
  • Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.
