The Department of Biological Sciences is one of four departments in the College of Science. Position Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of North Texas is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist (level I). The Research Scientist will be involved in a project focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms regulating a potassium channel, utilizing the nematode C. elegans as a model system. More specifically, the candidate will perform various biochemical and molecular experiments, including plasmid preparation, cloning, RNA isolation, western blotting, and immunostaining. The candidate will also be responsible for performing microinjections to create transgenic worms, conducting freeze-thaw cycles on worm samples, and executing worm behavior assays. Additionally, the candidate will be in charge of general laboratory maintenance, which includes cleaning lab space and ordering supplies. The ultimate goal of this research is to gain a better understanding of how the potassium channel is regulated in vivo and how its regulation affects neuronal function.
Minimum Qualifications
A Master's degree with at least two years of relevant experience in a life science laboratory.
Prior working experience with the C. elegans model.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in molecular cloning and protein analysis.
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
