Job Summary:

 GENERALSCOPE OF WORK/RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is a three-way split (65%research, 25% teaching, and 10% extension). The successful candidate will beexpected to conduct research with goats, hair sheep and/or beef cattle in theLU-SL/SAAS. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationallyand internationally recognized research program in basic and/or applied animalbreeding and genetics field. The incumbent is expected to procure extramuralfunds for support of a vibrant research program, and collaborate with otherscientists on varied research of interest. The individual is expected to teach undergraduateand graduate level courses in his/her area of expertise, supervise studentworkers, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. The successfulcandidate is also expected to participate in extension programs.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONSAND EXPERIENCE:  A PhD inAnimal Science or closely related discipline is required. Profound knowledgeand experience in animal breeding, molecular breeding, animal genetics,quantitative genetics, biological informatics, or molecular biology isrequired. The incumbent should have a demonstrated interest in cattle, goatsand (or) hair sheep with a strong background in ruminant research. The incumbentmust have a demonstrated ability to conduct research appropriate forpublication in peer-reviewed journals. The incumbent should be knowledgeable inmethods of data handling and statistical analyses used in Animal Scienceresearch. The person must be willing to teach in relevant areas and participatein extension programs. The successful candidate will be expected to have considerableskills in oral and written communications. Capacity to work cooperatively withothers for successful teamwork is necessary.
