The focus of this role is flavor/volatile analysis by GC-MS; utilizing a variety of extraction techniques in a wide variety of food matrixes to support Flavor RD&A and our different EUMs. Candidate should be highly motivated and have previous knowledge and experience of volatile analysis by GC and GC-MS. Candidate will be working as part of the analytical department that also performs the analysis of samples using a range of modern analytical techniques to investigate their chemical and physical properties.
- Supporting flavor development through analysis and interpretation.
- Using a range of software, techniques and equipment to carry out research and flavor analysis.
- Accurately recording data in accordance with guidelines.
- Liaising with product developers, customers, suppliers and research/scientific staff.
- Writing and presenting reports, reviews and summaries.
- Keeping up to date with scientific and technical developments.
- Developing new analytical methods or validated previously developed flavor analytical methods.
- Performing regular tune-up and simple maintenance to the analytical equipment (GC, HPLC and LC-MS)
- Ensuring that health and safety issues are adhered to.
- A strong academic background is essential in a relevant degree subject, such as chemistry, applied/analytical chemistry or biochemistry.
- 3+ years of experience with GC and GC-MS are required. Knowledge of other techniques (HPLC, LC-MS) would be of benefit.
- Knowledge and experience of flavors and flavor analysis is highly desirable.
- Ability to prioritize and schedule work to meet demands set by the department, company or external customer, often to short deadlines.
- Ability to convey technical information to technical and non-technical people.
- Good standard of numeracy and skills in data analysis, with a flexible and methodical approach to work.
