A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Upon background check and CCATS Executive Committee approval, Research Fellow may have patient/research subject contact directly relating to and incidental to the original research program. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.
The candidate identified for this fellowship will work on projects related to ultrasound imaging and ultrasound-based characterization of tissues using elastographic techniques. In particular, this candidate will work with Dr. Matthew Urban, Ph.D. and Dr. Christine Lee, M.D., Ph.D. on ultrasound Doppler twinkling investigations for creating new biopsy markers. The candidate should be familiar with medical ultrasound, signal and image processing and MATLAB/Python programming. A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Acoustics, Physics, or equivalent is preferred. The candidate will participate in studies involving engineering design and implementation, working with research and clinical ultrasound scanners, and be involved with studies involving phantoms, animals, and human subjects. Familiarity with use of a Verasonics research system will be considered favorable. Additionally, background with machine learning techniques will be considered favorable.
