Role Summary:

Quantum Signal AI is looking for a Research Engineering Intern to join us for the summer of 2024. You will be joining a team that works on a wide variety of projects, ranging from network communications and physics-based modeling to data analysis, systems analysis, simulation, and testing for advanced vehicle technologies. Day to day, you will apply core engineering principles, learn hardware and software development practices, as well as broaden your knowledge in whatever ways our diverse cross-disciplinary project portfolio may require. We are always on the lookout for lifelong learners who embrace project-based workloads, favor breadth over depth when it comes to assignments, and those who thrive both individually and in highly collaborative team settings.

Location:

This position requires on-site presence in Saline, Michigan.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop, model, simulate, review, and characterize combined hardware-software systems to improve fidelity and operation of automotive technologies
  • Collaborate with mechatronics, software, mechanical, and other research engineers as a member of various project-focused, cross-functional engineering teams
  • Produce high-quality documentation and present designs, analyses, results, and status updates to a variety of stakeholders
  • Ideate, and quickly write and evaluate custom software, leveraging existing simulation tools to solve problems in vehicle motion, control, and other related areas

What You’ll Bring:

  • Current enrollment as a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and interest in working with other software languages and tools (e.g., Python, Java, C/C++)
  • Solid programming skills in problem solving, mathematical modeling, data analysis, and visualization
  • Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals and calculus, and a desire to learn about new technologies

Bonus Points For:

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and pursue pragmatic and creative approaches to technical problems
  • Previous experience using numerical and data analysis
  • Previous work/internship/co-op experience in a technical setting
  • Experience working as a member of cross-disciplinary and cross-functional teams

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and/or people of color are less likely to apply to a job unless they meet every qualification. At Quantum Signal AI, we’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workforce, so if you’re excited about this role but your previous experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification, we encourage you to apply anyway! You may be the perfect candidate for this or another role at QSAI.

We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for our team.

What You’ll Get:

  • Experience working in a technical setting among people with a diverse set of skills and backgrounds
  • A relaxed, fun environment in which to solve interesting problems that will have a direct and visible impact on the company
  • Opportunity to participate in a 401(k) savings plan
  • Ford AXZ-Plan vehicle discounts
  • Other perks to fuel creativity such as an on-site gymnasium, free drinks and snacks, and a variety of optional team activities
