The Research Computing Specialist II will be responsible for supporting Windows-based research platforms, including both production and non-production environments; with supervision and direction, completing assignments in the required timeframe while consistently adhering to standard operating procedures and best practices; adapting to a changing environment, resolving problems associated with assignments and seeking supervisor assistance when needed. Embodies the Hospital’s core values in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
The Research Computing Specialist will be responsible for:
- Administration and support of Windows-based research platforms
- Coordination of upgrades and patching of supported systems. Development and documentation of test plans, test cases and requirement coverage matrices. Implementation of new functionality and workflows. Review of upgrade release notes from the vendor and communicate with stakeholders
- Providing end-user technical support, which includes activation of new accounts, training assignments, application configuration and administrative oversight. Responding to support tickets in a timely fashion
- Leading, co-leading, and participating in projects from the research community
- Creating or contributing to a range of compelling communications that clearly deliver content. Presenting at project and departmental meetings
To qualify you must have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in STEM or a closely related field and a minimum one year position specific experience
- Extensive system administration knowledge of Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2020
- Technical knowledge of Microsoft Information Internet Services (IIS) and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
- Working experience in Active Directory, DNS, and basic networking
- Knowledge of how to implement SSL certificates for IIS and Apache websites
- Additional preferred qualifications include experience with SQL Server database management; Knowledge of Windows Powershell and/or Python scripting; System administration experience of Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers; Experience with VMware vSphere and Zerto Replication; Experience with upgrading and patching Windows server applications (e.g. JitBit helpdesk system)
- Ability to resolve a wide range of application assignments; ability to routinely lead and coordinate projects; readiness to seek guidance when needed and to operate effectively in collaboration with scientists and clinicians; ability to follow, improve and create technical documentation and standard operating procedures
- Effectively conveying messages through written or verbal communications that are clear and effective
- Passion for new technologies and science
- Preference for candidates with understanding of biomedical research environments; experience with clinical research data types (e.g. whole-exome and whole-genome sequencing, patient-level data)
