Job Summary

Provide and manage communications services regarding highly technical topics for one or more specific research units. Develop detailed knowledge of faculty expertise and research done by these units; assess strategic communications needs and manage provision of comprehensive communications services to those units. Where necessary, obtain specialized expertise such as graphic design, web design, photography, video and social media strategy and manage integration of those services to meet identified strategic goals.This position will interact on a regular basis with: internal and external management, faculty, staff, unit personnel and stakeholders. This position typically will advise and counsel: internal and external management, faculty, staff, unit personnel and stakeholders. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Develop detailed knowledge of assigned research units; assess, identify and elevate science/technology news opportunities within relevant research areas; Develop and manage strategic initiatives to inform and guide internal stakeholders on key issues; ensuring internal and external strategies are aligned.
Job Duty 2 -
Create a cohesive communications strategy for each unit that aligns with Institute-level priorities; Develop core messages that meet the goals of the Institute and research strategic plans and customizes core messaging to meet the needs of different audiences.
Job Duty 3 -
Lead unit level multi-media communications efforts for one or more units that target internal and external audiences, support business goals and enhance the reputation of the unit(s) and the Institute.
Job Duty 4 -
Proactively cultivate an environment of information sharing and success recognition.
Job Duty 5 -
Ensure quality control and messaging consistency of all information released.
Job Duty 6 -
Direct and provide executive communications support.
Job Duty 7 -
Serve as the liaison from the unit to the research communicators' network, as well as to the creative services team and Institute Communications. Convene collaborators in Institute Communications and across campus to advance internal communications objectives.
Job Duty 8 -
Identify projects requiring specialized skills such as graphic design, web design, photography, video and social media strategy and partner with staff reporting to the Research Creative Services Director. Manage project timeline and deliverables on behalf of unit leadership.
Job Duty 9 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Marketing Communications or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Experience
Five to seven years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Preferred skills include use of MS Office software for presentations and writing; familiarity with content maintenance of Drupal-based websites.
