Position Summary
The Translational Imaging Center (TIC) at Houston Methodist Research Institute is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Research Associate within our Preclinical Imaging (PCI) Core. The PCI Core is committed to providing cutting-edge imaging technologies for non-invasive studies of molecular and biological processes in small animal models that mimic human diseases. The successful candidate will offer expertise to support the PCI's mission in discovering and developing innovative diagnostic methods and drug candidates.
A deep understanding of imaging physics, along with foundational knowledge in related animal physiology and pathology, is essential for this position. The selected Research Associate will manage small-animal imaging studies in a preclinical setting. This role involves using small-animal scanning equipment, including integrated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), computed tomography (CT), and optical imaging scanners. The Associate will conduct precise and accurate imaging analyses for research development and will work closely with research teams to develop and optimize imaging protocols for various preclinical studies. Additionally, the Research Associate will collaborate with scientists to evaluate emerging imaging technologies for clinical translation and assist in training users on these novel imaging technologies.
Job Level and Salary: Compensation for this position is commensurate with experience .

Minimum Qualifications
A qualified candidate should hold a PhD or equivalent doctorate degree in a related field, such as bioengineering, biomedical & biological imaging, and optical, physics, radiological, and biomedical sciences. A minimum of 2 years of clinical or laboratory experience is preferred. Primary computer and Microsoft Office skills are required. The ability to communicate effectively is needed. Knowledge and working experience in medical imaging, especially in MRI and PET, is highly preferred. Occupational safety and health, hazardous materials, and ionizing radiation training will be required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain preclinical imaging systems, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with all safety guidelines.
- Develop, implement, and optimize imaging protocols for preclinical studies.
- Supervise or assist with animal preparation, positioning, monitoring, and data acquisition during imaging procedures.
- Oversee scheduling and coordination of instrument usage to ensure efficient utilization of resources.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials for users of the PCI facility.
- Ensure proper data management including data storage, backup, and transfer.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to PCI equipment and software.
- Maintain an updated knowledge of new techniques, applications, and advancements in preclinical imaging.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional guidelines, including those related to animal welfare.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including biologists, pathologists, physicists, and imaging scientists.
- Provide training and guidance to other staff, researchers, and students on PCI instrument operation and safety procedures.
