Position Summary

The Translational Imaging Center (TIC) at Houston Methodist Research Institute is seeking a Research Assistant II ofPreclinical Imaging. The Research Assistant will manage small-animal imaging studies in a core service setting using advanced multimodality imaging systems, including PET-MRI-CT-SPECT, Bioluminescence & Fluorescence Optical Imaging Imagers. This position will support investigators and users in operating the multimodality systems, collecting imaging data, and performing data analysis. The Research Assistant will work with scientists to evaluate new imaging technologies for clinical translation. He/she will also take responsibility for training users, scheduling studies, and assisting with billing and cost management.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree plus a minimum of 1 year of clinical or laboratory experience in bioengineering, biomedical & biological imaging, and optical, radiological, and biomedical sciences. Primary computer and Microsoft Office skills are required. The ability to communicate effectively is needed. Knowledge and working experience in medical imaging, especially in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), is highly preferred. Occupational safety and health, hazardous materials, and ionizing radiation training will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Perform routine equipment calibration, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance for animal imaging studies.

· Assist in rodent anesthesia and monitoring.

· Oversee data acquisition with small-animal imagers.

· Maintain detailed records of imaging studies and controlled substances used in the core facility.

· Maintain imaging database and perform data transfers.

· Assist in computerized image analysis.

· Train new users and oversee the use of radioactive materials and chemicals in the core.

· Prepare protocols for the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC), Hazardous Substances Committee (HSC), and Radiation Safety Committee (RSC).

· Perform instrument surveys for radioactive material and maintain radiation safety records.

· Contribute to scheduling, billing, cost management, budget estimates, and various core revenue and expenditure reports.

· Order and keep the supplies needed in animal imaging studies to maximize the efficiency and safety of the core service performance.
