The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a full time Research Assistant I in the Korstanje Lab based in Bar Harbor, Maine.
The focus of the Korstanje lab is to study the genetics underlying kidney
disease and aging. The RA1 works under direct supervision of the Lab Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain mouse colonies; set up specific breeding strategies.
- Colony management using CLIMB.
- Drug treatment of mice using gavage, IP injection, tail vein injection
- Kidney phenotyping
- Tissue collections
- DNA isolation and genotyping
- Document experiments in LabGuru.
Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in a science related field preferred
- Mouse handling and husbandry skills preferred.
- Follow detailed written directions.
- Fundamental computer skills, including familiarity with Excel and Word.
- Ability to clearly and concisely communicate information verbally and
- in written form.
- Ability to demonstrate effective mental concentration, visual attention
- and dexterity.
- Ability to interact with all individuals in a productive, professional and
- positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research
- program.
- Established understanding of good safety practices and a
- demonstrated history of safe conduct.
- Proven ability to organize time effectively and work under time
- constraints, meet deadlines and prioritize work.
- Ability to work flexible shifts (evening/weekend/holiday).
- Regular, reliable and consistent attendance.
- Although we try to keep this at a minimum, the RA1 is required to work flexible shifts that may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays depending on the demands of the research and/or laboratory operations.
Pay Range: $18.22 - $28.93
