INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. The successful candidate may be required to pass a drug screening, background check and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.
Hours of Work: 7am-6pm Mon-Thurs.
This entry-level research position is suited for someone eager to assist and learn from more advanced analysts in water-resource planning and management. The candidate should have a foundational understanding of the field, including basic principles and practices. The role involves supporting the analysis of complex problems and participating in research assignments, guided by more experienced analysts. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn about planning and forecasting projects, understanding relevant laws and regulations, and contributing to water demand and conservation planning. The position requires developing skills in detailed work planning and program/policy development under the guidance of senior staff. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are important for conveying technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. This role offers a learning environment to gradually build advanced professional concepts and skills in the field.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs detailed data collection and analytical duties in support of other analysts engaged in complex statistical and analytical research and forecasting studies; and performs related duties as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Basic principles, practices and methods of demographics, socio-economic research and market-based research as they apply to assigned areas of research responsibility; research related computer software and programming languages; concepts, sources and general methods and techniques of analysis for population, water use and conservation data; uses of geographic information systems in water demand and resource and conservation planning and forecasting processes; project management methods and practices; principles and practices of effective business communication.
Ability to:
Collect, analyze and integrate relevant data from various sources, ensuring a high degree of data quality and integrity; organize and present complex information and data clearly, succinctly and comprehensively; efficiently modify and use queries of standard difficulty to obtain and compile data from multiple systems and databases; understand, interpret, explain and apply complex rules, regulations, policies and procedures and apply them in a variety of procedural situations; set priorities and perform work to meet timelines; respond quickly, effectively and accurately to requests for information from various sources; prepare clear and concise technical documents, reports, graphs and illustrations; analyze situations accurately and adopt appropriate effective courses of action within established guidelines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, employees and others encountered in the course of work.
Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, data science, quantitative analysis or urban planning or a closely related field; and one year of responsible experience in conducting statistical, economic or market-based research; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid Nevada driver's license and ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
