Overview: Mesa Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Research Analyst to join our Research & Evaluation team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about education, data analytics and Business Intelligence to contribute to our district’s initiatives. The Research Analyst and Business Intelligence Developer will play a crucial role in supporting various analytical and reporting efforts throughout the organization. The position will conduct analytical research and develop Business Intelligence solutions compiling information from various sources for the purpose of decision making. The position is ideal for an individual who is eager to learn, detail-oriented and possesses strong analytical and technical skills.
Base Salary:
$66,155.00
Performance Pay:
Available annually
New hire experience:
1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a five-year maximum
New hire education:
1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Statistics, Data Science or related field, advanced degree preferred
- Two years of data analysis and/or engineering experience in a K-12 education system
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Education, Statistics, Data Science or related field
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS (KSAO)
- Proficient knowledge of data analytics, data wrangling and data blending/integration
- Proficient knowledge of data visualization and reporting tools (e.g, PowerBI, Tableau, Google Analytics, etc.)
- Experience creating performance reports/dashboard for non-technical team members
- Ability to write and utilize SQL to extract and manipulate data
- Demonstrated skill and knowledge of computer applications in the use of research and analysis (Excel, SPSS, R, Stata, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to independently conduct advanced ad-hoc statistical analyses and reporting
- Familiarity with data processing technologies and Agile development processes
- Understanding of database and cloud solutions (e.g. Azure, AWS, etc.)
- Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
- Eagerness to learn and develop skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, clearly and effectively for all levels and types of audiences (technical and non-technical)
- Capacity to work cooperatively with teachers, administrators and other employee groups in an educational setting
- Familiarity with school improvement practices and trends as well as Arizona’s school accountability system
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Conduct data analysis using specialized software (i.e. R, SPSS, Modeler)
- Collaborate with the Research and Evaluation team to build consistent, accurate and available data solutions in specialized software (i.e. PowerBI, Tableau, Excel, etc.)
- Independently define problem statements and extract user requirements for data analysis and Business Intelligence solutions
- Develop and present analyses and reports using data visualization and storytelling best practices
- Produce documentation to ensure data consistency, quality and transparency across the district
- Identify trends and patterns in data, providing meaningful insights and recommendations
- Participate in data quality issue analysis and resolution recommendations
- Collaborate with senior Analyst and other team members in the department to ensure accurate visualizations, data elements and consistent practices are adhered to
- Compile information from internal and external sources (i.e. student records, surveys, federal, state and local governmental agencies, etc.) for use by district administrators
- Combine data files from multiple sources efficiently and effectively to create a clean data set for analysis
- Write custom SQL queries
- Make recommendations based on data and research findings provided by the analytics team
- Provide training on the proper and effective use of data tools
- Prepare various reports for professional, technical, and non-technical audiences to provide and/or convey information
- Respond to in-district and out-of-district inquiries for data requests
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Maintain department procedures and policies in alignment with district, state and federal statutes and regulations
- Work closely with Research and Evaluation leadership to identify, support and implement data-driven projects for district-level stakeholders and site-level leaders
- Foster a continuous learning, professional development and growth mindset amongst team members
- Perform other duties as assigned
