Renewable Energy Superintendent

The big picture
Thorstad Companies is seeking a Renewable Superintendent. This position will be responsible for providing leadership and on-site supervision of various crews (civil, electrical, tower erection, substation, concrete, etc.) and their activities ensuring compliance with Company safety and quality procedures and policies and production goals. The Renewable Superintendent is also responsible reviewing plans and drawings, controlling costs, labor schedules, materials, tools, equipment and subcontractors per the contract. As a member of the on-site team, this position also acts as a cultural manager by ensuring that the company's fundamental values are followed and maintained.
  • Direct, plan and manage crews ensuring projects are safe, quality driven and productive.
    • Ensure the project is in compliance with federal and state safety regulations, the site-specific safety plan and client requirements through collaboration with Site Manager, on-site Safety Coordinators, and project team.
    • Provide direction to Forepersons ensuring each crew/scope stays on schedule and within budget, while adhering to Company policies.
    • Schedule equipment, materials, tools and crews to efficiently utilize resources.
    • Responsible for controlling job costs and informing site manager and/or project manager of potential over-runs.
    • Ensure each crew's work is built within the scope of the contract by reading, understanding and correlating contract documents. (design plans, specifications, schedule, budget, etc.)
    • Maintain productive and efficient crews, ensure best practices are communicated and enforced, and assigned scopes are technically and quality compliant striving towards superior project execution.
    • Ensure proper implementation and application of the project QA/QC with assistance from site management.
    • Work with Site Manager and other Superintendents to prep and mobilize/demobilze from project site.

  • Coordinate and Communicate with other Superintendents, Site Manager, Project Manager and other project personnel
    • Attend internal project meetings to provide updates on areas of responsibility.
    • Communicate with Site Manager and/or Project Manager with updates on status of project, any potential problems areas.
    • Responsible for documenting work activities as required through internal online system.
    • Coordinate and communicate with other Superintendents, Trade Forepersons, etc. to plan out work activities, and resource needs.
    • Assist Site Manager in communicating with Owner regarding project status.
    • Work with Project Manager at beginning of project to identify personnel, tools, equipment and supplies needed for project.
  • Provide leadership to direct reports and project crews
    • Leads and manages assigned project crews through employees and/or hired organizations.
    • Ensures the project follows company policies and state and federal employment regulations.
    • Develop a high performance, customer-oriented work team, through hiring, motivating, coaching, appraising, and rewarding, and addressing under performers, complaints or personnel conflicts.
    • Conduct employee performance conversations, review and feedback as needed and on a semi-annual basis to provide mentoring, coaching and rewards for continued employee development.
  • Build relationships and champion company culture
    • Daily, set exemplary standards of ethics and stewardship of company resources, function as a team player and help maintain trust and communication.
    • Strives to exhibit and apply company values to all interactions and build/maintain relationships with company stakeholders (employees, clients, subcontractors, community members, regulatory bodies, etc.).
    • Shares knowledge of lessons learned, company values, and employees' skills and abilities.
    • Ensures direct reports and the site crews utilize professionalism while interfacing with vendors, subcontractors, landowners and other community members.

Required qualifications
  • 5 years supervising construction crew, 10+ years construction experience.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external personnel from varied and diverse backgrounds, including site management, craft personnel, and owners.
  • Able to adapt communication style to the speaker and possess a high degree of active listening skills
  • Strong interpersonal, team building, customer service, communication, problem solving, planning and leadership skills.
  • Detail orientated with the ability and organization to manage multiple crews and tasks.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Must be able to speak and understand English.
  • Requires ability to read plans.

  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus
